Summary
Alien Species Control, LLC is seeking a motivated and organized Field Coordinator to support invasive plant and vegetation management projects throughout Alaska. This is a hands-on position that combines field work, project coordination, administrative support, and employee supervision.
The Field Coordinator will spend a significant portion of their time working alongside field crews conducting invasive plant surveys, herbicide applications, data collection, and vegetation management projects. When not in the field, the Field Coordinator will assist with scheduling, project logistics, client communication, reporting, equipment management, and other operational tasks that support successful project completion.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both outdoor field work and office-based project coordination and is looking for a leadership role in a growing environmental services company. The position is roughly 60% field work, 20% project management, and 20% administration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Field Operations
- Participate in invasive plant surveys, mapping, herbicide applications, and vegetation management projects throughout Alaska.
- Assist with project implementation and ensure field activities are completed safely and efficiently.
- Train and mentor Field Technicians in invasive plant identification, herbicide application techniques, data collection, and safety procedures.
- Serve as crew lead on selected projects.
- Maintain high standards for safety, quality, professionalism, and environmental stewardship.
Project Coordination
- Assist with planning and scheduling field projects.
- Coordinate field logistics including travel, lodging, equipment, vehicles, and project supplies.
- Track project progress, labor hours, and project deliverables.
- Communicate regularly with project managers, clients, and field staff.
- Assist with project proposal preparation.
- Support completion of project reports and client deliverables.
Administrative Support
- Maintain project files, treatment records, and operational documentation.
- Review employee timesheets and assist with project cost tracking.
- Assist with invoicing and project billing documentation.
- Coordinate employee certifications, training records, and safety documentation.
- Maintain herbicide application records and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Support development and implementation of operational systems and procedures.
Equipment and Logistics
- Coordinate maintenance and organization of company vehicles, trailers, herbicide application equipment, and field supplies.
- Maintain equipment inventories and order supplies as needed.
- Ensure field crews have appropriate equipment and materials for project completion.
- Assist with shop organization and fleet management activities.
Personnel Support
- Assist with onboarding and training seasonal employees.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to field crews.
- Promote a positive team culture and strong work ethic.
- Help identify staffing needs and improve operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to perform both physically demanding field work and office-based administrative tasks.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Alaska.
- Alaska DEC Certified Pesticide Applicator certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Ability to work safely in remote environments and variable weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds and walk long distances over uneven terrain.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with herbicide application and invasive plant management.
- Experience leading field crews or supervising employees.
- Knowledge of Alaska invasive plants and vegetation management practices.
- Knowledge of native plant species and ecological dynamics.
- Experience with GPS data collection, GIS software, and mapping applications.
- Experience with project coordination, scheduling, or environmental consulting.
- Experience operating and maintaining boats, trailers, ATVs, UTVs, chain saws, weed whackers, sprayers, and other field equipment.
- OSHA training and other relevant safety certifications.
Work Schedule and Travel
General work hours are during the regular workday (typically Monday through Friday), although project schedules may require extended hours, overnight travel, and occasional weekend work.
Projects are based throughout Alaska and include work in Anchorage, Girdwood, the Kenai Peninsula, Talkeetna, Fairbanks, Interior Alaska, and remote communities. Willingness and ability to travel overnight for field projects is required. Lodging, travel expenses, and per diem are provided for qualifying travel.
Position is year-round, but highly seasonal. January to March is roughly 5-15 hours/week, April to June ramps up from 10 to 40+ hours per week, July to September is full time (with overtime OR potential flexibility for part time), and October to December ramps down from 40 to 10 hours per week.
Compensation
Salary range: $30-45/hour Starting wage DOE
