Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, updating records, and verifying insurance information using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates accurately for pediatric patients of all ages.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort throughout visits.
- Support clinical procedures including medication administration, basic X-ray imaging, and sample collection for laboratory testing.
- Document patient encounters thoroughly, including ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases) to ensure accurate billing and recordkeeping.
- Manage medical supplies inventory, sterilize equipment, and maintain a clean clinical environment in compliance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists in various fields such as dermatology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, and hospital medicine to deliver comprehensive care.
Requirements
- Certified Medical Assistant credential from an accredited program is required.
- Prior experience working in outpatient pediatric clinics or hospital settings such as Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to pediatric care is essential.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and familiarity with ICD coding for accurate documentation.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Experience with inpatient care environments like PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), Geriatrics units, or Medical-Surgical wards is advantageous.
