Materials Supervisor

Fluidra’s looking for a Materials Supervisor to join our team in Portland, TN.
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
The Materials Supervisor oversees all materials management and inventory control activities at the Orlinda TN manufacturing facility. This position combines the functions of logistics and materials supervision to ensure continuous supply of raw materials, accurate inventory management, and efficient material flow to support production and customer requirements. Additionally, this role is responsible for overseeing end-to-end logistics operations, including inbound and outbound transportation, shipping and receiving execution, and warehouse coordination to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective movement of materials and finished goods. The Materials Supervisor ensures alignment between production schedules, customer delivery requirements, and logistics execution while maintaining compliance with company standards and transportation regulations.
The Materials Supervisor manages end-to-end materials operations from vendor purchasing and receiving through storage, movement, and production support ensuring alignment with corporate standards while adapting processes to meet local operational needs. Additionally, you will:
Supply Management
Work closely with planning and production teams to expedite materials as required to support manufacturing schedules.
Evaluate, negotiate, and manage supplier relationships to meet cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
Track and manage return material authorizations (RMAs) and vendor credits.
Maintain accurate records and data integrity in ERP systems.
Materials & Inventory Management
Oversee all receiving, put-away, storage, and material movement within the facility.
Maintain accurate inventory levels, ensuring material availability while minimizing excess and obsolete stock.
Optimize material placement and flow to support production and shipping efficiency.
Develop and execute corrective actions for process deviations or recurring supply issues.
Regularly report operational performance metrics to site and corporate leadership.
Support audit readiness and adherence to company policies and inventory control procedures.
Logistics & Warehouse Operations
Oversee daily shipping and receiving operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to customer and carrier requirements.
Coordinate inbound and outbound freight, including carrier selection, scheduling, and performance monitoring to optimize cost and service levels.
Ensure all shipping documentation (BOLs, packing lists, labels) is accurate and compliant with internal and external requirements.
Manage dock scheduling and material flow to prevent congestion and support efficient loading and unloading activities.
Partner with planning and operation team to prioritize shipments and resolve delivery issues proactively.
Monitor and improve key logistics KPIs, including on-time shipping, freight cost, dock-to-stock time, and shipping accuracy.
Drive continuous improvement in warehouse layout, material handling, and logistics processes to improve throughput and reduce waste.
Support physical inventory, cycle counts, and audit activities related to shipping and receiving accuracy.
Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, damages, and claims with carriers and internal stakeholders.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Supervise and train materials handling staff as needed, establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and standard work.
Maintain a safe and organized materials area; promote proactive safety behaviors.
Partner with production, logistics, and quality teams to resolve material issues and streamline processes.
Proven ability to lead by example, foster teamwork, and maintain a high standard of accountability.
WHAT WE SEEK
Experience:
3+ years in purchasing, materials, or inventory management in a manufacturing environment.
1+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
Experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, or logistics coordination within a manufacturing environment preferred.
Familiarity with transportation management, freight terms, and carrier interactions.
Working knowledge of shipping systems, barcode scanning, and warehouse/material handling equipment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills:
ERP/MRP system experience required (Navision, Oracle, or similar).
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of warehouse management, cycle counting, and inventory control principles.
Other Requirements:
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate a forklift (certification preferred).
Proven ability to lead by example, foster teamwork, and maintain a high standard of accountability.
EDUCATION
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field. High school diploma or equivalent required
