About the Role
We're hiring a paid Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to train alongside our experienced technicians servicing our fleet of heavy trucks and roll-off equipment. This is a hands-on, learn-by-doing position — you'll start with preventive maintenance and tire work and grow into engine diagnostics, air brakes, hydraulics, and electrical troubleshooting.
You don't need diesel experience to apply. If you've turned wrenches on cars, worked in a quick-lube or tire shop, wired trailers, run a farm shop, or come out of a vo-tech or military maintenance background, we'll teach you the rest.
What You'll Do
- Perform preventive maintenance: oil and filter changes, greasing, fluid checks, DOT inspections
- Assist senior techs with diagnostics using schematics, meters, and shop diagnostic software
- Learn repair and service of air brakes, suspensions, drivelines, HVAC, and hydraulic systems
- Support tire service, wheel-end work, and roadside/on-site repairs
- Assist with basic welding, fabrication, and component assembly/disassembly
- Document all work performed — parts used, labor time, and unit history
- Keep the shop clean, tools accounted for, and follow all safety and lockout procedures
What We're Looking For
- Some mechanical background — automotive or heavy truck preferred, but any hands-on repair experience counts
- Ability to read schematics or willingness to learn
- Comfortable with hand and power tools; able to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet
- Valid driver's license (CDL not required, but we'll help you get one if you want it)
- Reliable, on time, and coachable — attitude matters more than resume here
- 18 or older, able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Nice to Have
- Dealership, fleet, or independent shop experience
- Welding experience (MIG/stick)
- Air brake or ASE certifications
- Own basic hand tools
