St. Michaels Fine Woodworking / St. Michaels Kitchen & Bath is hiring a Commercial Millwork Lead Installer to lead and execute high-quality field installations on commercial and institutional projects.
This role is for a skilled, capable installer with strong experience in architectural millwork, cabinetry, casework, paneling, trim, countertops, and finish carpentry. The right person can read the job, solve problems in the field, work cleanly and professionally, and help drive projects to completion without constant supervision.
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who has real installation experience, takes pride in quality, and can represent the company well on active jobsites.
Responsibilities
- Install commercial casework, cabinetry, millwork, paneling, countertops, shelving, trim, doors, hardware, and related finish carpentry
- Perform field layout and verify dimensions before and during installation
- Read and work from plans, shop drawings, cut sheets, and installation details
- Identify field issues early and communicate them clearly to project management and the shop
- Maintain installation quality, production pace, and jobsite professionalism
- Coordinate with other trades and site supervisors to keep the project moving
- Handle punch work, adjustments, scribing, fitting, and final detailing as needed
- Ensure jobsites remain clean, organized, and safe
- Load, protect, transport, and install finished millwork with care
- Lead or assist other installers on site depending on project size and complexity
Qualifications
- Strong background in commercial millwork installation, cabinetry installation, finish carpentry, or architectural woodworking
- Ability to install accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Ability to read drawings and understand installation intent
- Strong problem-solving skills in real field conditions
- Professional communication and jobsite conduct
- Reliable transportation
- Full set of basic installation tools
- Ability to lift, carry, and install heavy materials safely
- Ability to travel to jobs throughout the DC metro region and Eastern Shore
Preferred experience
- Experience with libraries, offices, institutional interiors, tenant fit-outs, reception desks, built-in casework, wall panels, and custom millwork
- Experience on commercial or government projects
- Experience working with site supervisors, project managers, and construction schedules
- Ability to lead a small field crew or work as the senior installer on site
Compensation
- $30.00 to $46.00 per hour, based on experience, production capability, and scope of work
- Higher earning potential on qualifying commercial and government work
