Wisconsin Institute of Functional Medicine (WIFM) Appleton, WI
Full-Time | 34-36 Hours Per Week | 4-Day Work Week
Looking for a Nursing Role That Uses Your Critical Thinking?
The Wisconsin Institute of Functional Medicine is seeking an experienced Triage Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a central clinical coordinator between patients, providers, pharmacies, laboratories, and specialty testing facilities.
This is not a traditional bedside nursing position. The majority of this role is desk-based and computer-focused, utilizing clinical judgment to triage patient concerns, coordinate care, manage provider communications, and support treatment plan implementation.
If you enjoy problem-solving, patient advocacy, clinical decision-making, and keeping complex care moving forward, this may be the perfect fit.
What You'll Do
As a Triage RN, you will:
- Review and respond to high volumes of patient portal messages
- Assess symptoms and determine appropriate next steps using clinical judgment
- Process medication refill requests according to provider protocols
- Coordinate specialty laboratory testing and patient follow-up
- Communicate with pharmacies, laboratories, and patients
- Enter medications, supplements, treatment plans, and lab orders into the EHR
- Escalate urgent or complex patient concerns to providers
- Support care plan implementation and patient education
- Complete referrals, prior authorizations, and clinical documentation
- Collaborate closely with providers and the clinical team
What This Role Looks Like Day-to-Day
This position is ideal for nurses who:
✅ Enjoy working on a computer throughout most of the day
✅ Thrive in a fast-paced triage environment
✅ Like solving clinical puzzles and coordinating care
✅ Prefer structured daytime hours
✅ Enjoy supporting patient care behind the scenes
This position is primarily seated at a desk, managing patient communications, documentation, clinical coordination, and triage workflows. While there is occasional direct patient interaction, most of the work is performed through our EHR, patient portal, and clinical systems.
