DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers to support students who require special education services.
· Develop and implement the individualized education service plan and transition plan for students enrolled in the education setting and identified under IDEA as Special Education
· Guide students through a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards.
· Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and policies and procedures of Birmingham City Schools.
· Collaborate with the teacher of record to develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with curriculum standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
· Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students.
· Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps
· appropriate records to include attendance reports, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
· Communicate regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and areas of concern.
· Supervise and monitor student movement and escorts students to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, room changes and other activities in the building.
· Administer standardized testing.
· Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
· Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors.
· Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
· Ability to compile and analyze data, interpret the laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to the work.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Effective oral and written communication.
