About the Role
A growing children’s specialty retailer is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and hands-on Assistant Store Manager to support the daily operation of a busy retail location.
You will work closely with the Store Manager to support the team, strengthen daily operations, and ensure store priorities are carried through consistently. You will take ownership of scheduling, task coordination, reporting, inventory organization, and operational follow-through. You will also lead the store when the Store Manager is unavailable.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating structure, keeping a team organized, and making sure important tasks are completed correctly and on time. The right person will notice what needs attention, establish clear priorities, follow up with team members, and help ensure the store runs smoothly every day.
While delivering a great customer experience remains important, this position has a strong operational focus. Success requires the ability to build a productive partnership with the Store Manager while also taking independent ownership of assigned responsibilities.
This is a hands-on position in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial retail environment. We are looking for someone who leads by example, communicates clearly, stays calm under pressure, and takes initiative without needing constant direction.
What You’ll Do
- Work closely with the Store Manager to coordinate daily priorities and keep the store operating smoothly.
- Help oversee daily operations, including opening and closing procedures.
- Create and maintain staff schedules based on business needs and employee availability.
- Coordinate shift coverage and respond quickly to callouts or scheduling changes.
- Set clear daily and weekly priorities for the team.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and follow up to ensure work is completed properly.
- Supervise, coach, and support sales associates during their shifts.
- Help maintain consistent standards for attendance, punctuality, conduct, and performance.
- Support employee onboarding, training, and ongoing development.
- Communicate expectations clearly and address performance or execution issues promptly and professionally.
- Complete required operational reports accurately and on time.
- Monitor store communications, checklists, deadlines, and follow-up items.
- Support inventory receiving, stock organization, replenishment, transfers, and cycle counts.
- Help maintain an organized stockroom and a clean, well-presented sales floor.
- Oversee cash-handling procedures, register accuracy, deposits, and other opening and closing controls.
- Ensure company procedures and safety standards are followed consistently.
- Support the Store Manager and sales team in achieving sales and customer-service goals.
- Step onto the sales floor during busy periods and assist customers as needed.
- Communicate store needs, staffing concerns, and operational issues to the Store Manager and company leadership.
- Take responsibility for store operations when the Store Manager is unavailable.
What We’re Looking For
- At least two years of retail experience, including supervisory, key-holder, or management responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience creating schedules or coordinating employee coverage.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- A track record of following through and holding others accountable respectfully.
- Confidence supervising a team and communicating clear expectations.
- Ability to build a constructive working relationship with an established Store Manager.
- Experience with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and POS systems.
- Comfort working with inventory, receiving, replenishment, and stock organization.
- Ability to complete reports, use spreadsheets, and maintain accurate records.
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to recognize operational problems before they grow.
- Good judgment and the ability to solve day-to-day problems independently.
- A calm, professional, and constructive approach to employee issues.
- Willingness to work on the sales floor and assist customers when needed.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, opening shifts, and closing shifts as required.
The Right Fit
You may be a strong fit if you are the person who naturally creates the schedule, organizes the team, follows up on unfinished work, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks.
You should be comfortable working alongside an established Store Manager and contributing your own operational strengths. The best candidate will know how to be supportive and collaborative while still communicating directly, taking ownership, and ensuring agreed-upon priorities are completed.
We value people who are proactive, reliable, fair, and willing to pitch in. This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of a store’s daily operation and make a visible impact on the team and customer experience.
