Job Description – Part-Time Accountant (GovCon Focus)
Position: Part-Time Accountant
Location: Remote, CA, PST time zone
Reports To: COO / CEO
Schedule: Flexible, ~20–25 hours per week
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Part-Time Accountant with proven experience in government contracting (GovCon) accounting. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage both day-to-day bookkeeping and strategic financial reporting. This role will support company leadership in maintaining compliance, ensuring accurate financial records, preparing budgets/forecasts, assisting with financing efforts, contributing to pricing strategies for new projects, and supporting tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain and reconcile QuickBooks to ensure accurate and up-to-date financial records.

Oversee GovCon-compliant accounting practices, including cost allocations, indirect rates, and allowable/unallowable expenses.

Prepare and submit invoices in WAWF (Wide Area Workflow) and other government portals as required.

Support leadership with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Prepare financial reports, lender-ready packages, and supporting schedules for financing requests.

Track accounts payable/receivable and ensure timely follow-up.

Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closes.

Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and DCAA audit requirements.

Collaborate with internal teams and external auditors as needed.

Assist with pricing strategies on new projects, including cost modeling and proposal support.

Prepare and file sales tax reports in compliance with state and local requirements.

Assist in preparation of company tax returns by coordinating with external CPAs and ensuring records are audit ready.

With flexibility for other responsibilities as needed.
Key Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of government contracting accounting practices.

Proficiency in QuickBooks (QB).

Experience with Zoho Ono or the ability to learn.

Experience with WAWF / iRAPT invoicing system.

Experience preparing financial statements, lender packages, and tax-related documentation.

Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.

Ability to contribute to project pricing strategies and proposal development.

Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with small business GovCon firms.

Knowledge of DCAA compliance and audit readiness.

Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Deltek, Zoho or other GovCon accounting and project management tools.

CPA or equivalent accounting certification (preferred but not required).

Based in California or PT time zone.
Compensation & Benefits

$31,200 to $46,800 (DOE)
