Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager for a 3–6 month contract engagement. This individual will play a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, improving processes, and supervising one Staff Accountant.
The ideal candidate will have 4–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong experience working with Intuit enterprise-level accounting software, and advanced Excel skills. We are also looking for someone who is highly comfortable with technology and either has experience using AI tools in an accounting/business environment or demonstrates the aptitude and curiosity to quickly learn and apply AI to improve productivity and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support day-to-day general accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
- Assist with preparation and review of monthly financial statements and management reporting.
- Review the work of and provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to one Staff Accountant.
- Utilize advanced Excel capabilities to analyze financial data, reconcile accounts, and develop reporting tools.
- Work extensively within Intuit enterprise accounting software and related systems.
- Leverage AI and other emerging technology tools to improve efficiency, data analysis, documentation, and accounting workflows where appropriate.
- Assist management with special projects, reporting requests, and process-improvement initiatives.
- Help establish or improve accounting procedures, controls, and documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 4–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally at the Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager level.
- Strong general ledger and month-end close experience.
- Experience supervising, reviewing, or mentoring junior accounting staff.
- Strong hands-on experience with Intuit enterprise-level accounting software a plus
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, complex formulas, data manipulation, and large data sets.
- Strong overall systems aptitude and ability to quickly learn new applications.
- Experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude or similar platforms in a professional environment is highly desirable.
- Candidates without significant AI experience should demonstrate strong technical aptitude and an interest in learning how AI can be effectively incorporated into accounting processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while also effectively managing and developing a Staff Accountant.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be a hands-on accounting professional who is equally comfortable working in the details and overseeing another team member. This person should be technologically curious, adaptable, and interested in finding more efficient ways to accomplish accounting work through Excel, automation, and AI.
This is a 3–6 month contract position requiring an in-office schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
