POSITION SUMMARY
Work is performed under the general supervision of a Senior Parks Technician or Park Maintenance Supervisor. Performs Semiskilled work to help maintain the county’s parks and recreation facilities. Work is generally performed outside and may take place in uncomfortable conditions, including extreme heat or cold, rain, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs lawn and landscape maintenance.
- Responsible for landscaping projects.
- Responsible for turf management.
- Responsible for facility maintenance and repair.
- Responsible for sports field maintenance.
- Responsible for playground maintenance and repair.
- Performs equipment operation and repair.
- Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be able to understand and follow instructions - both oral and written - to work productively in a team environment and to skillfully use tools and equipment related to assignments, according to instructions. Complies with County policies as well as Parks Department procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires experience in and/or knowledge of the methods, practices, equipment, materials, and procedures for landscaping, general landscape maintenance, construction, carpentry, facility maintenance, and equipment maintenance and repair.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.
- Must be willing to take and pass a department-run CPR and first aid class within 6 months of hire.
- Finalists must successfully pass a pre-employment screening process, including a drug screen, and criminal background check.
