Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician with a solid background in cement and/or concrete laboratory testing to support quality control operations at our cement grinding and distribution facility in Port Manatee, Florida. The ideal candidate will have minimum 3–4 years of hands-on experience performing laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM standards, and a strong understanding of cement, clinker, gypsum, and supplementary cementitious materials behavior.This role is critical to ensuring product compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and FDOT requirements and maintaining consistent product quality for customers across the Tampa Bay region.
Key Responsabilities
- Perform routine and advanced laboratory tests on cement, clinker, gypsum, limestone, and SCMs in accordance with ASTM standards
- Conduct cement physical tests including:
- Fineness (Blaine & sieve)
- Setting time (Vicat)
- Soundness (Autoclave)
- Compressive strength (mortar cubes)
- Normal consistency
- Specific gravity
- Prepare and test mortar and concrete samples per ASTM procedures
- Perform moisture analysis, gradation, and material characterization tests
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, logs, and test reports
- Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and properly maintained
- Provide real-time quality feedback to production and operations teams
- Assist in troubleshooting quality deviations in grinding and blending operations
- Prepare samples and documentation for third-party and DOT verification testing
- Maintain laboratory safety and OSHA compliance
- Participate in internal and external audits (FDOT / ASTM compliance)
Shift Work Requirement
- This position operates on a rotating shift schedule aligned with plant production hours
- Candidate must be willing to work day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends and holidays when required
- Flexibility based on production and vessel/unloading schedules is essential
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3–4 years of experience in cement or concrete laboratory testing
- Strong working knowledge of ASTM cement and concrete test methods
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment (Blaine, Vicat, Autoclave, compression machine, sieve shaker, etc.)
- Familiarity with ASTM C150, C595, C109, C191, C204, C151, C188
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting
- High attention to detail and documentation discipline
- Ability to work in an industrial plant environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a cement plant, grinding plant, ready-mix, or materials testing lab
- Knowledge of AASHTO and FDOT requirements
- Experience with SCMs (slag, fly ash, limestone blended cements)
- Technical degree or certification in materials, chemistry, or civil engineering technology
- OSHA safety training
Compensation & Benefits
- Gross annual salary: USD 50,000 – 60,000, based on experience and qualifications
- Work schedule: 40 hours per week
