Pat and Gracie's is a Columbus scratch kitchen with a sophisticated, sultry, speakeasy-inspired atmosphere, rooted in the real story of Pat and Grace Murnan. Everything we do — food, drink, and hospitality — is made in house and designed to feel a little bit exclusive, a little bit unexpected.
Position Summary
The Host is the first and last impression of the Pat and Gracie's experience. This role sets the tone for the visit — welcoming guests, managing the flow of the dining room, and making every guest feel like they've walked into somewhere special.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests warmly and promptly as they arrive, setting the tone for our speakeasy-inspired atmosphere
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists accurately using our reservation system
- Strategically seat guests to balance server sections and optimize table turns
- Communicate wait times clearly and manage guest expectations during busy periods
- Maintain a clean, organized host stand and entryway
- Answer phones professionally, take reservations, and answer basic guest questions about the restaurant, menu, and events
- Coordinate with servers, bussers, and management to ensure smooth table turnover
- Assist with private events, banquets, and catering check-ins as needed
- Say goodbye to guests as they leave, encouraging return visits
- Support marketing/brand efforts by embodying our story (Pat & Grace Murnan) when guests ask about it
Qualifications
- Previous host, hostess, or front-of-house experience preferred but not required
- Friendly, outgoing, and composed under pressure
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Comfortable using a POS/reservation system (we use Toast)
- Professional appearance and demeanor consistent with an upscale atmosphere
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
