About the Role
DeWys Metal Solutions is seeking a skilled MIG Welder to join our growing manufacturing team in Marne, MI. In this role, you will focus primarily on hands-on MIG (GMAW) welding to fabricate and assemble high-quality sheet metal components.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, precision, and consistency of our products. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement efforts, supporting team goals related to quality, throughput, safety, and operational excellence.
- Set up and operate MIG (GMAW) welding equipment for assigned jobs
- Layout, position, align, and fit metal components to meet job specifications
- Perform finish grinding to achieve high-quality weld appearance and surface finish
- Follow proper ventilation and safety practices during welding and grinding operations
- Read and interpret blueprints, travelers, and setup sheets
- Meet or exceed production targets while maintaining DeWys quality standards
- Reduce setup times and support efficient use of tools and equipment
- Identify causes of defects or rejected parts and support corrective actions
- Perform preventive and basic maintenance on welding and grinding equipment
- Keep workstations clean, organized, and production-ready
- Participate in training, cross-training, and team development activities
- Support team initiatives related to quality, training, scheduling, and throughput
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work rules
- Use required PPE at all times
- Support other work centers as business needs require
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years of metal fabrication experience, including at least 1 year of MIG welding
- Strong proficiency in MIG (GMAW) hand welding
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, and travelers
- Strong understanding of safety standards, SOPs, and equipment maintenance
- Basic math skills (whole numbers, fractions, decimals)
- Experience using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, tape measure)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Welding certifications (AWS or similar)
- Experience with manufacturing systems (barcoding, labor tracking, etc.)
- Exposure to other welding methods (TIG, spot, or robotic) is a plus, but not required
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs with assistance or equipment
- Strong visual acuity and depth perception for inspection and safe machine operation
- Exposure to welding fumes, airborne particles, and moderate-to-loud noise levels
- Required use of PPE including safety glasses, welding helmets, masks, and grinding shields
