JOB TITLE: RESIDENT AIDE
COMMUNITY: HALLMARK OF BAKERSFIELD
FLSA STATUS: HOURLY – NON MANAGER – NON EXEMPT
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Wellness Director, the Resident Assistant is responsible for the direct care, assistance and supervision of all residents at Hallmark of Bakersfield.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Wellness Director and/or Executive Director and is a non-supervising position.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Resident Aide works within a framework of established regulations as set forth by Federal and State laws and regulations. This position is expected to perform a full range of management activities and other technical duties that includes on call responsibility. Adequate performance at this level requires the knowledge and ability to adhere to specialized program guidelines and regulations and the demonstrated ability to effectively care for our residents in a kind, compassionate manner, while maintaining a high resident and family satisfaction level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
· Acts in a proactive manner to anticipate resident needs and responds appropriately
· Delivers the highest level of customer service, maintains a positive, upbeat attitude and strives to always say “yes” to our residents and their family members
· Works collaboratively with the Wellness Coordinator to ensure State and Federal regulations are being adhered to
· Engages with residents on a daily basis, ensures a high level of resident and family satisfaction
· Responsible for ensuring State mandated forms are updated in a timely manner
· Carries out the assigned tasks, which will include responsibilities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, escorts, supervision, light housekeeping and laundry, assistance with activities and resident engagement, etc.
· Works collaboratively with peers to execute events designed to enhance resident satisfaction and attract new residents to the community
· Creates and sustains positive working relationships with family members and third party agencies, ensures there is an open line of communication at all times
· Documents and immediately reports all unusual incidents, skin integrity issues, resident changes in status, etc. to supervisor
· Responsible for providing prompting and redirection to residents with cognitive impairment, always engaging with residents in a calm, professional, caring manner
· Maintains an open line of communication with the Wellness Coordinator, ensuring proper documentation of current resident status
· Assists residents with self-administration of medication per physician orders
· Performs other related functions as directed by Executive Management
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Knowledge of:
· Compliance issues as they relate to HIPPA
Skilled in:
· Ability to hold self-accountable to high standards of practice
· ADL Assistance, providing care to the senior population
· Providing prompting/redirection to residents with memory impairment
· Managing multiple tasks while staying on goal and timeline
Ability to:
· Maintain confidentiality of pertinent information
· Follow verbal and written instruction
· Develop and maintain effective working relationships, both internal and external
· Identify and solve program problems in order to improve the overall operation and resident satisfaction
· Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
· Create fact based documentation regarding resident special incidents
· Provide accurate and timely information to superiors, peers and subordinates
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability will qualify, these would typically be:
· Specialized training in the senior living industry, with an emphasis on working with dementias and other memory impairments
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Possession of a valid California Driver’s License: Class C
· Proof of valid automobile insurance
· Available for flexible scheduling, including occasional weekends, holidays and evenings
· Ability to pass a comprehensive DOJ and FBI background investigation
· Ability to pass mandated health and drug screenings
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
Positions in this class are typically situated in a standard resident care environment. As a result of these required functions, there will be exposure to all types of weather from snow to rain, with temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The ability to gain ingress and egress at all types of locations (ex. Homes, apartments, mobile homes, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, physician’s offices, etc.) is essential.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS:
Performance, wage and disciplinary evaluations are conducted with your direct supervisor and the Executive Director.
