The Village Community School of Sarasota is seeking a warm, experienced, creative, and mission-aligned Part-Time Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs within our growing Bible-based homeschool co-op community.
We believe children should not be defined by a diagnosis, learning difference, test score, behavior, or area of difficulty.
The ideal candidate knows how to identify learning barriers, provide targeted academic support, strengthen executive-function skills, collaborate with teachers and families, and help students build genuine confidence and independence.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide individual and small-group academic instructional support and intervention.
- Support students with needs such as ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, autism, executive-function challenges, processing differences, and other mild-to-moderate learning needs.
- Identify academic gaps and adapt instruction to meet students at their current level.
- Provide targeted support in Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, and executive-function skills as needed.
- Use multisensory, hands-on, movement-based, visual, and practical teaching strategies.
- Differentiate instruction based on student readiness, strengths, learning profile, developmental needs, and demonstrated progress.
- Provide accommodations and instructional modifications when appropriate while maintaining meaningful academic expectations.
- Help students develop strategies that allow them to become increasingly independent learners.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on student response.
- Assist students in transferring skills learned during intervention into their regular classroom environment.
- Help students develop organization, time management, task initiation, attention, planning, self-advocacy, and independent learning skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to recommend accommodations, instructional strategies, and appropriate supports.
- Review educational evaluations, IEPs, 504 Plans, or other learning-support documentation when provided by families.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with parents regarding student strengths, progress, and areas of need.
- Help create a Christ-centered learning environment where students feel known, capable, supported, and appropriately challenged.
Support Faith Formation:
The ESE Teacher should demonstrate a sincere and active Christian faith consistent with the mission of VCSS.
Responsibilities include:
- Integrating Biblical truth, prayer, gratitude, stewardship, service, character, and identity in Christ naturally throughout the learning environment.
- Reminding students that their value does not come from grades, speed, comparison, achievement, diagnosis, or academic performance.
- Helping children understand they are intentionally and uniquely created by God.
- Modeling patience, humility, wisdom, integrity, responsibility, grace, perseverance, and loving communication.
- Helping students understand that their gifts and abilities are meant to be developed and stewarded for God's purposes and the good of others.
- Participating in prayer, Scripture conversations, Village Table Talk, and other faith-forming rhythms as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in ESE, special education, or a closely related field.
- Teaching certification and/or relevant ESE or special-education training.
- Demonstrated experience working with students with learning differences or exceptional educational needs.
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and individualized intervention.
- Knowledge of neurodiversity, learning disabilities, executive functioning, and child development.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to pass all required background screening and child-safety requirements.
- Alignment with the Biblical mission, values, and educational philosophy of The Village Community School of Sarasota.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Exceptional Student Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Florida ESE certification or endorsement.
- Experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, executive-function challenges, etc.
- Experience in a homeschool program, micro-school, outdoor school, private school, Christian school, or small-group learning environment.
