About The Project Shop
The Project Shop (TPS) is a project management and PMO consulting firm that helps organizations run high-stakes, multi-workstream initiatives with the discipline of an experienced internal PMO. We work alongside clients on program governance, budget and schedule management, resource allocation, and execution oversight, partnering with in-house teams and specialist vendors rather than replacing them.
We are building a growing practice supporting clients whose projects carry elevated security, risk, and compliance requirements, and we are adding a Technical Project Manager to help lead that work.
Position Summary
TPS is seeking a Technical Project Manager, with a background leading security or cybersecurity projects, to lead client engagements where information security, risk management, or regulatory compliance are central to project success. You will report to the VP of Client Services & Delivery, and will own day-to-day delivery for one or more client engagements, translating security and compliance requirements into structured project plans that a broader technical and business team can execute against.
This role suits someone who is equally comfortable in a project management framework (scope, schedule, budget, risk, governance) and in a security conversation (frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or SOC 2, vulnerability and remediation cycles, audit and assessment cadences, vendor risk). You do not need to be the one performing security testing or engineering, but you need to understand the work well enough to plan it, sequence it, and communicate its status and risk clearly to clients and to TPS leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery for assigned client engagements: scope, schedule, budget, resourcing, risk register, and status reporting.
- Translate security, risk, and compliance requirements (e.g. assessments, audits, remediation programs, control implementations) into clear project plans and milestones.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients on assigned engagements, building trusted relationships with client stakeholders and their technical teams.
- Coordinate across internal TPS resources, client teams, and any third-party technical vendors involved in an engagement, keeping everyone aligned on scope and timeline.
- Identify and escalate risks, scope changes, and resourcing gaps early, working with delivery leadership to resolve them.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of TPS's delivery frameworks, particularly as they apply to security and compliance-driven engagements.
- Support proposal and scoping conversations for prospective security-related engagements when needed.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience managing projects or programs, ideally within consulting, professional services, or an internal PMO.
- Direct experience with security, cybersecurity, IT risk, or compliance projects, whether as a project manager, analyst, or coordinator.
- Working familiarity with at least one recognized security or compliance framework (examples: NIST CSF, ISO 27001, SOC 2, CIS Controls, HIPAA, PCI DSS).
- Comfort managing multiple concurrent workstreams and client relationships simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical security topics to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work in multiple project management frameworks (Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, etc.)
- Proficiency with standard project management and collaboration tooling (examples: Asana, Microsoft 365, Linear, Jira, Smartsheet or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management certification.
- Security-adjacent certification such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP (or in progress), or CISA.
- Prior experience working inside or alongside a managed security services provider (MSSP), MSP, or internal security team.
- Experience supporting M&A integration, due diligence, or post-acquisition security consolidation work.
- Consulting or client-facing agency experience, where you served as the named point of contact for client delivery.
- Time zone flexibility, given the remote nature of the role and TPS's distributed team and client base.
