About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to help build and mature our accounting function as we grow from a smaller, founder-run organization into a more standardized, scalable operation.
This role is less about maintaining an existing system and more about building one — establishing repeatable processes, technical accounting policies, and controls that will support the company through its next stage of growth. You'll work closely with the Accounting Manager and have real ownership over key technical accounting areas from day one.
What You'll Own
- Lease accounting — Manage the company's lease portfolio under ASC 842, including classification, amortization schedules, and related journal entries and disclosures.
- Percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting — Own POC calculations and revenue recognition for long-term contracts under ASC 606, coordinating with project/operations teams to ensure accurate cost-to-complete estimates.
- Journal entries & month-end close — Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules as part of a timely, accurate month-end close process.
- Process building & standardization — Design, document, and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls where none currently exist, replacing ad hoc practices with repeatable ones.
- General ledger integrity — Perform account analysis and reconciliations across balance sheet and income statement accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Technical accounting research — Research and apply US GAAP to new or complex transactions as the business grows, and draft accounting memos to document conclusions.
- Audit & compliance support — Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, preparing schedules and support for annual reviews or audits.
- Cross-functional partnership — Work with FP&A, operations, and other departments to ensure accounting practices reflect how the business actually operates.
What You'll Need
- Active CPA license required.
- 3+ years of relevant accounting experience (a mix of public accounting and industry experience is a plus).
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, with hands-on experience in lease accounting (ASC 842) and/or revenue recognition for long-term contracts (ASC 606).
- Experience building or improving accounting processes, not just executing existing ones — comfort working in ambiguity and creating structure from scratch.
- Strong Excel skills; experience with an ERP/accounting system (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, Dynamics) required.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables against close deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills — you'll be documenting policies and explaining technical accounting to non-accountants.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a growth-stage private company transitioning from informal to standardized accounting practices.
- Experience with system implementations or ERP migrations.
- Big 4 or regional public accounting background.
