American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU position requiring 2 years of CVICU experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

, 6-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit within a hospital setting
-
Patient population includes post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR), structural heart procedures (TAVR, mitral clips, Inari), STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and ICU bounce-backs
-
Average daily census of 3-5 patients with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio

Manages complex post-op care including inotropic support, hemodynamic instability, open chest, OHS/Impella, ECMO, CRRT, and IABP within the first 6 hours post-op

Uses Epic EMR (required)

Rotating night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30), with possible rotation to 11a-11p shifts based on unit needs

Works 36 hours per week
-
Required to work every third weekend, with additional coverage possible based on unit needs

Holiday coverage required as scheduled

Floating required to MSICU as needed

On-call requirement of 24-32 hours per rotating 6-week schedule

Active RN license (MD or Compact) required

Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and CPI required (NIHSS, OCN, and TNCC preferred)

Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
-
First-time travelers accepted with CVICU experience
-
Epic EMR experience required
-
Immediate post-op open heart experience required
-
Experience with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
-
Experience managing ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and ABG interpretation
-
Experience with CABG, TAVR, valve repair/replacement, IABP, and Impella care
-
Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and managing continuous IV sedation
-
Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and acute/chronic renal failure management
-
Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
-
Charge nurse experience preferred
-
Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
-
Provide comprehensive critical care to complex cardiovascular surgical and interventional patients
-
Support includes an on-site perfusionist for ECMO and on-site dialysis for CRRT
-
Floating to MSICU required with no restrictions
-
Travelers are expected to float first per unit policy
-
Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
-
Special scheduling requests must be submitted with RTO at time of application
-
Maximum RTO request is 7 days; contracts with more than 4 consecutive days off require an additional week added to the back end
-
One major holiday off may be allowed during the winter season
-
Returning staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
-
Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system after completing an assignment
-
Extensions typically limited to one contract plus one extension, followed by a required 6-month break
-
Candidates residing under 50 miles from the facility are not accepted as local unless otherwise specified
