JOB TITLE: Tooling Engineer
EXEMPT STATUS: Salary – Exempt (7am-4:30pm)
POSITION PURPOSE: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality injection molding tools that support our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for tool design, troubleshooting, process optimization, and continuous improvement of tooling systems to ensure efficient production, cost-effectiveness, and product quality.
Key Responsibilities:
● Design and develop new injection molds, tooling, and fixtures based on product requirements.
● Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure tools meet specifications and production goals.
● Review and approve mold designs, material selections, and manufacturing methods.
● Oversee tool fabrication, qualification, and validation processes with internal teams and external vendors.
● Troubleshoot mold and tooling issues, implement corrective actions, and recommend improvements.
● Manage mold trials, analyze results, and adjust tooling/process parameters for optimal performance.
● Ensure tools comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (including ISO 13485, if medical devices).
● Maintain accurate records of tool designs, revisions, and maintenance history.
● Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time, scrap, and overall tooling costs.
● Provide technical support for tool maintenance, repair, and refurbishment programs.
Qualifications:
● 5+ years of experience in injection molding tooling design, development, and troubleshooting.
● Some education including associate’s or bachelor’s or equivalent experience
● Strong knowledge of mold design principles, plastic material properties, and manufacturing processes.
● 5+ years experience and fluent with CAD software with SolidWorks, Creo, etc.
● Experience with GD&T, mold flow analysis, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) practices.
● Hands-on experience with tool qualification, validation, and root-cause analysis.
● Familiarity with quality standards (ISO 9001, ISO 13485, FDA requirements a plus).
● Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred Skills:
● Experience with hot runner systems, multi-cavity molds, and high-precision tooling
● Knowledge of automation and secondary operations in injection molding
● Vendor management and global sourcing experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
● May have to lift up to 40 lbs. on an irregular basis
● May be exposed to extreme temperatures and loud working conditions when on the floor

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
