Overview
Join our dynamic behavioral health team as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Substance Use Counselor, where your expertise will empower individuals on their journey to recovery. In this vital role, you will deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, conduct comprehensive client assessments, and foster a supportive environment that promotes lasting change. Your dedication will help clients develop coping skills, manage co-occurring disorders, and achieve their recovery goals through personalized care and compassionate guidance.
Duties
- Conduct thorough intake assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Facilitate engaging individual and group therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to ensure client safety during episodes of distress or relapse.
- Provide family and child counseling when appropriate, promoting holistic recovery and strengthening support systems.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with HIPAA, medical records standards, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, monitor progress, and adjust interventions as needed.
- Engage in ongoing research and data collection to enhance treatment efficacy and contribute to best practices in addiction medicine and behavioral health.
Experience
- Proven experience working with individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions such as PTSD or behavioral health challenges.
- Strong background in psychotherapy techniques like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, crisis management, and case management.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, diagnostic evaluation tools such as DSM-5 criteria, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and CPT coding for billing purposes.
- Experience working within hospital or community care settings, providing patient assessment, crisis intervention, and behavioral health support.
- Knowledge of clinical documentation standards, electronic health records (EHR/EHR management), HIPAA regulations, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds while delivering culturally competent care.
- Strong communication skills for client engagement, case documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
