Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities
Familiar with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks, requiring a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. In-depth experience with MRP software is required; Epicor experience is preferred. Requires 5–8 years of experience in the field or a related area. Typically reports to an executive manager.
Responsible for soliciting quotes, negotiating for the best overall value (including terms and delivery), and awarding purchase orders as approved by the qualifying executive. Recommends purchases according to purchase suggestions, considering lead times, Min/Max quantities, the Master Production Schedule, and Sales Orders. Enters and updates all documentation in department logs and the MRP system as required by departmental procedures. Ensures timely delivery of ordered product and maintains accurate and current delivery dates in the MRP system. Contacts vendors via email or phone as needed.
Requirements

- Computer literate with the ability to quickly learn required software

- Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required
- 5–8 years of experience in the field or a related area
- Ability to work overtime as necessary
Typical Duties
- Source new suppliers through research, websites, supplier meetings, purchase histories, recommendations, and other methods
- Qualify and select suppliers based on purchase history, quality, pricing, or prior government supply/product knowledge
- Review and understand all material requirements for assigned commodities
- Manage the purchase order process by reviewing all relevant material requirements (MRP suggestions, Min/Max, Kanban, etc.)
- Use negotiating strategies to obtain optimal quality, pricing, and delivery
- Solicit, expedite, and evaluate supplier quotes and services to identify the best suppliers for raw materials and machined components
- Prepare simple bids, RFQs, and proposals, including specifications, spreadsheets, comparisons, recommendations, and justifications
- Create and submit purchase orders for internal review, facilitating final order selection based on buyer recommendations and company requirements
- Submit and confirm receipt of approved purchase orders with suppliers
- Manage outstanding purchase orders, including confirming delivery promises, adjusting dates due to requirement changes, expediting critical items, and canceling unnecessary orders
- Process availability reports as needed
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, including part and supplier information, contacts, pricing, part costs, delivery dates, and PO status notes
- Save and attach quotes, certifications, and supporting documents in the MRP system
- Request and enter new part numbers and associated data into the MRP system as needed
- Support Engineering Change Processes and new product development initiatives, including writing ECPs and updating part revisions, descriptions, and purchase orders
- Ensure DFARS flowdowns are updated and followed during purchase order placement
- Develop and maintain purchasing performance metrics, including supplier on-time delivery and shortage reports
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional environment, machining areas, warehouse spaces, and both indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required in designated areas.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions presented in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required. Ability to sit for extended periods. Regular requirements include standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time salaried position, scheduled from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, or as needed.
Required Education and Experience
- Five to eight years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- High school diploma or GED required
Language Skills
Ability to understand and communicate job instructions effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, though some out-of-area and overnight travel may occur.

Pay: $65,634.29 - $85,000.00 per year
