Overview
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring workplace safety, health, and compliance with environmental regulations. This position supports SungEel Recycling Park Indiana’s lithium-ion battery recycling operations by developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental programs to promote a safe and compliant working environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of occupational health standards, environmental policies, and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
· Develop and implement comprehensive training programs focused on workplace safety and environmental compliance.
· Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
· Perform root cause analysis for incidents to prevent future occurrences.
· Manage workers' compensation claims and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
· Collaborate with various departments to promote occupational health initiatives.
· Stay updated on EPA, RCRA, and DOT regulations and ensure the organization complies with all environmental and safety laws.
· Provide first aid, CPR, and AED support in emergencies.
· Manage hazardous waste activities and ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
· Maintain and track air and water permits and coordinate related reporting.
· Develop and oversee emergency response plans and drills.
· Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring (air, noise, chemical exposure).
· Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and related documentation.
Qualifications
· At least 3-5 years of experience with EHS management. Battery recycling is preferred.
· Familiarity with occupational health standards and practices.
· Proficiency in developing and delivering employee safety training.
· Strong analytical skills for conducting root cause analysis of incidents.
· Strong communication, supervisory, and teamwork skills.
· Preferred qualification: RCRA, HAZWOPER 40-Hour, OSHA 30. Bilingual (English/Korean) a plus.
· Bachelor’s degree in one of these (Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology), or experience in lie of degree.
· Knowledge of lithium-ion battery hazards, thermal runaway prevention, battery storage requirements, and emergency response procedures preferred.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
