ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY
DESCRIPTION
This is a special education teaching position at Roosevelt Elementary. The teacher will
case manage resource one students who need significant behavior support. This job
also supports students without IEPs who need behavior RtI. Roosevelt has a strong
culture of collaboration and supporting students. All staff are expected to be an effective
member of an educational team as well as take initiative and communicate as needs arise.
This job requires the staff member to be Right Response trained. This will be provided by the
district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Under the direction of the teacher, adapts and assists with classroom activities, assignments
and/or materials for the purpose of providing an opportunity for all students to participate in
classroom activities.
2. Under the direction of the teacher, prepares visual schedules for autistic students and runs
individual student instructional programs under teacher direction.
3. Collects and prepares a variety of materials and assignments (e.g. tests, homework, grades
papers, folders, and behavioral data daily) for the purpose of assisting teacher in evaluating
students’ progress and/or organizing the individual needs of the student.
4. Corrects student worksheets, tests, and assignments.
5. Assists teachers in the daily management, organization, monitoring and safety of students.
6. Administers first aid and medical assistance as required for the purpose of providing
appropriate care for children.
7. Assists students requiring support in addressing personal care and hygiene needs due to
medical condition and/or physical limitations for the purpose of allowing students to
function in school environment. Helps with toileting and lifting both male and female
students.
8. Instructs students in a variety of activities in individual and group settings (e.g. academic
subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional
objectives; implements plans for remediation of students' deficiencies in accordance with
students' individual education program goals and/or ensuring students success in school.
9. With proper training, lifts, positions, or transfers students with disabilities.
10. Monitors and supervises students within a variety of school or community environments
(e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, locker rooms, lunchrooms, study and detention
rooms, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, field trips, etc.).
11. May be required to work outdoors for the purpose of aiding students and providing a safe
and positive learning environment.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and
effective functioning of the work unit.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics;
or knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness, and
mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have:
1. A high school diploma
2. Completed at least two years of study at an institution of high education; or
3. Obtained an Associate (or higher) degree; or
4. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic
assessment (ETS ParaPro Assessment):
(a) Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics;
or
(b) Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing
readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.
