PART-TIME ONSITE IT AND SYSTEMS ASSISTANT
White Hall Animal Clinic is seeking a dependable, technically skilled individual to provide routine onsite IT support at our veterinary hospital in Fairmont, West Virginia. This position is ideal for an advanced computer science, cybersecurity or information technology student, or an IT professional seeking flexible supplemental work.
Our established remote IT provider will continue to handle advanced administration and remote support. This position will serve as the provider’s onsite “hands and eyes” while also completing routine weekly system audits and basic technical tasks.
Schedule and compensation:
- 4-8 scheduled onsite hours per week
- Flexible scheduling available
- Guaranteed minimum pay of $100 per week for up to four hours
- Additional approved hours paid at $25 per hour
- Hours beyond four per week must generally be approved in advance, except when immediate action is required during a system outage
- Occasional additional availability may be requested for urgent onsite problems, equipment installations or system upgrades
Primary responsibilities:
- Complete a structured weekly audit of the clinic’s computers, security, network, and other connected systems
- Physically inspect switches, access points, network racks, battery backups and other equipment
- Verify that computers, printers, phones, cameras, network equipment and other connected devices are functioning
- Check workstation updates, security status, storage capacity and general performance
- Confirm that scheduled backups have completed successfully
- Assist with connecting, installing, replacing and troubleshooting computers, printers, cables and network equipment
- Test Wi-Fi and network connectivity throughout the building
- Maintain an organized inventory of equipment, devices, serial numbers and network locations
- Label and organize cables and equipment
- Document identified problems and completed work
- Communicate with the clinic’s remote IT provider and assist with onsite tasks while the provider works remotely
- Provide a brief written report following each weekly audit
- Assist with future technology projects, including UniFi networking, cameras, speakers and other connected systems
Preferred qualifications:
- Current study or experience in computer science, cybersecurity, information technology, network administration or a related field
- Familiarity with Windows computers and basic business networking
- Experience with UniFi systems is preferred but not required
- Ability to perform basic hardware and peripheral installation and troubleshooting
- Strong problem-solving, communication and organizational skills
- Dependable transportation and the ability to report onsite consistently
- Ability to work independently and protect confidential business and client information
