Overview
Join growing telehealth oncologist network and help bring in-house cancer care to critical access communities that have long been sending patients hours away for treatment they could receive locally. This is a part-time 1099 contractor role built for an experienced oncologist who wants meaningful clinical work without the overhead of a full-time hospital position. You'll serve as the remote prescribing physician for immunotherapy infusions administered at community hospitals, supported by a team of prior authorization, compliance, and operational infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial oncology consultations via video, reviewing patient history, labs, and imaging shared by the hospital care team to develop individualized immunotherapy treatment plans
- Prescribe and remotely oversee infusion cycles for checkpoint inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies including pembrolizumab, nivolumab, atezolizumab, durvalumab, bevacizumab, trastuzumab, and rituximab
- Review labs and toxicity assessments prior to each infusion cycle, approving or modifying dosing as clinically appropriate
- Manage Grade 1–2 immune-related adverse events remotely, adjusting supportive medications and monitoring parameters without requiring in-person examination
- Be available by video during infusion sessions to support on-site RNs in real time if reactions or clinical questions arise
- Conduct all follow-up visits via telehealth, interpreting labs, approving subsequent cycles, and counseling patients on treatment progress and side effects
- Co-sign RN infusion notes and coordinate with referring and primary care providers through shared EHR documentation
- Educate patients and families on immunotherapy, expected side effects, and what to monitor between cycles to support informed, confident participation in their care
Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification or eligibility in medical oncology or hematology-oncology
- Active medical license in at least one U.S. state; willingness to obtain additional state licenses as Varick's hospital network expands
- Hands-on clinical experience with checkpoint inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies; comfort managing Grade 1–2 irAEs without in-person examination
- Familiarity with J-code billing and medical benefit infusion workflows is a plus
- Proficiency with EHR documentation and telehealth platforms; reliable broadband and video setup required
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build patient trust and clinical rapport remotely
- Commitment to serving underserved and rural communities where access to specialty oncology care is limited
Pay: From $260.00 per hour
