We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, skilled, and energetic part-time Direct Care Provider to join our dedicated team in delivering high-quality support and assistance to individuals with diverse needs. This individual will be responsible for the daily care, supervision, and support of residents. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help enhance the quality of life for those you serve, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being are prioritized every day. We provide trauma-informed, specialized care for up to 11 adolescent female residents who have experienced victimization through human trafficking. Our mission is to restore dignity, safety, and opportunity to the young children in our care through compassion.
Duties
- Protecting and advocating for the rights, safety, and well-being of all residents.
- Providing trauma-informed support to residents experiencing separation anxiety or crisis, applying de-escalation and stabilization techniques.
- Modeling appropriate behaviors and healthy coping strategies for navigating stressful situations.
- Implementing crisis management protocols and behavior intervention plans as needed.
- Teaching and reinforcing life skills including personal hygiene, healthy eating habits, and positive social skills.
- Representing a stable, caring adult authority figure within the living group in a firm, nurturing, and consistent manner.
- Assisting residents in meeting daily assignments and program goals.
- Participating in staff meetings, service plan reviews, and program evaluation meetings.
- Contributing to the planning and scheduling of facility programming within assigned living groups.
- Maintaining accurate, thorough logs of significant events, resident progress, and child development milestones.
- Reporting emergency medical or dental needs and critical incidents to administrative/ staff on time.
- Completing all assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties in accordance with health standards.
- Support residents’ social engagement through recreational activities, fostering a positive community atmosphere.
- Drive residents when necessary for appointments or outings while adhering to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with team members to develop personalized care plans that meet each resident’s unique needs.
Requirements
- Knowledge of or academic background in trauma-informed care, particularly related to adolescent females who have experienced victimization in the sex trafficking industry.
- Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related Social Science field from an accredited institution; OR a minimum of 5 years of direct care experience in a group home, residential treatment center, or comparable setting.
- Valid driver’s license for driving responsibilities; clean driving record preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with residents and team members.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in high-stress situations.
- Commitment to reliability, consistency, and the well-being of the residents in care.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an extensive background investigation, including fingerprinting and screening required for all staff working in DCFS-licensed residential facilities. Applicants with disqualifying offenses per state regulations will not be considered.
Preferred
- CPR/First Aid certification ( or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Familiarity with DCFS residential facility regulations and compliance standards.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Prior experience working with survivors of human trafficking or youth in foster care/DCFS-involved settings.
Working Conditions
- Part-time schedule; shifts will include afternoons, evenings, and weekends, and/or based on facility need.
- Work is performed on-site at a residential facility.
- Role involves regular interaction with adolescent females in a residential living environment.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in crisis or emergencies is essential.
