Primary Function
The Accounting Specialist supports the financial operations of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse by maintaining accurate accounting records and assisting with day‑to‑day financial processes. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, this role helps ensure timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with nonprofit accounting and grant requirements. The Accounting Specialist also supports payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, grant reporting, and restricted funds tracking.
Key Responsibilities
- Process, record, and reconcile financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards and internal controls
- Maintain accurate general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable records
- Assist with monthly and year‑end close activities and financial reporting
- Process payroll and assist with HR system administration
- Prepare documentation and reports for grant reimbursements
- Track and document restricted funds, grants, and capital campaign activity
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Required
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- 3–5 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial operations experience
- Knowledge of general ledger accounting principles
- Experience with computerized accounting systems
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred
- Experience in a nonprofit or mission‑driven organization
- Exposure to payroll processing and benefits administration
- Proficiency with Excel and basic financial reporting
Physical Requirements
- Primarily office‑based work requiring prolonged sitting and computer use
- Occasional standing, walking, and movement throughout the workday
- Ability to use standard office equipment
- Occasional lifting of office materials up to 25 pounds

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
