Life's Journey is a DBHDS-licensed behavioral health and substance abuse treatment agency serving the Hampton Roads community. We operate multiple office and residential locations across Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth, and surrounding cities. Our mission depends on safe, well-maintained facilities — and we're looking for a skilled, dependable, and discreet Maintenance & Facilities Technician to help keep every property running at its best.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a hands-on, multi-site role for someone who can do a little bit of everything — and do it right. You'll work across multiple Life's Journey properties handling a wide range of maintenance, repair, cleaning, moving, and upkeep tasks. No two days are the same, and we need someone who thrives on variety, takes ownership of their work, and understands the importance of confidentiality in a healthcare environment.
This position requires a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, the ability to travel between locations, and a signed confidentiality agreement prior to beginning work.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Facilities Maintenance & Repair
● Perform general interior and exterior maintenance across multiple office and residential properties
● Complete minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and flooring repairs
● Replace light fixtures, switches, outlets, faucets, door hardware, and similar components
● Repair or replace windows, blinds, door locks, hinges, and weather stripping
● Troubleshoot and address building issues promptly — and escalate when a licensed contractor is needed
Office & Property Upkeep
● Assemble, move, and install office furniture and equipment
● Perform light demolition and space-clearing as directed
● Hang shelving, whiteboards, artwork, signage, and other mounted items
● Maintain a clean, organized, and professional appearance at all properties
● Perform cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and sanitizing as needed
Grounds & Exterior
● Perform lawn maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming, and leaf removal
● Keep parking areas, walkways, and entryways clean and clear
● Address exterior issues such as lighting, trash, and seasonal upkeep
Moving & Logistics
● Assist with office moves, furniture rearrangements, equipment transport, and storage organization
● Load, unload, and safely transport items between locations as needed
General Support
● Respond to maintenance requests across multiple locations in a timely manner
● Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and management as directed
● Maintain an inventory of tools, supplies, and materials
● Complete work orders and communicate job status to management
REQUIREMENTS
● Valid Virginia driver's license and reliable personal vehicle — required
● Willingness to travel between multiple locations across Hampton Roads
● Ability and agreement to sign a confidentiality agreement — required before start
● 2+ years of experience in general maintenance, handyman work, facilities, or a related trade
● Demonstrated ability to perform a wide range of repair, maintenance, and upkeep tasks
● Physical ability to lift 100+ lbs, climb ladders, and perform manual labor in varying conditions
● Flexible availability — position may require evenings, weekends, and holidays with prior notice
● Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
● Professional demeanor appropriate to a healthcare and residential services environment
● Ability to pass a background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience working in healthcare, residential, or institutional facilities
● HVAC, electrical, or plumbing certifications or trade experience
● Experience with commercial-grade lawn equipment
● Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and best practices
Pay: $24.98 - $30.09 per hour
