Position Overview
We are seeking a Utility Coordinator to support transportation and infrastructure projects throughout North Carolina. This position will be responsible for identifying utility conflicts, coordinating utility relocations, monitoring relocation activities, and ensuring utility work is completed in accordance with project schedules and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, communicates effectively with multiple stakeholders, and has experience working with utility owners, contractors, and transportation agencies on roadway and bridge projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate utility relocation activities for transportation and infrastructure projects.
- Identify utility conflicts by reviewing roadway, bridge, drainage, and construction plans.
- Develop and implement utility relocation strategies for water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunications, and other utility facilities.
- Monitor utility contractor compliance with approved relocation plans and schedules.
- Verify utility relocations and document completed work.
- Prepare daily reports, field documentation, meeting agendas, and meeting minutes.
- Schedule and facilitate coordination meetings with utility owners, contractors, project teams, and public agencies.
- Assist with utility agreements, relocation plans, cost responsibility determinations, and relocation schedules.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of utility relocation packages and project deliverables.
- Coordinate with design, construction, and environmental teams to resolve utility conflicts and support project delivery.
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction meetings as needed.
- Maintain accurate project records and communicate project status updates to stakeholders.
- Promote and maintain a strong commitment to workplace and construction safety.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in utility coordination, utility inspection, construction inspection, utility installation, or related transportation infrastructure work.
- Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge, drainage, utility, and construction plans.
- Knowledge of utility relocation processes and coordination practices.
- Familiarity with transportation agency standards, utility accommodation policies, and utility permitting requirements.
- Understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) principles and utility conflict analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with MicroStation or similar design software is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
