Carpenter – Bridge Repair
Position Scope
The Carpenter – Bridge Repair is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work in support of civil construction and infrastructure rehabilitation projects. This position focuses on concrete formwork, bridge repair, and structural restoration, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Construct, install, modify, and dismantle concrete formwork for bridges, piers, abutments, decks, retaining walls, and related civil structures

Perform carpentry tasks associated with concrete repair, rehabilitation, and structural restoration

Measure, cut, assemble, and install wood, metal, and engineered forming systems

Assist with concrete placement, finishing support, and curing activities
-
Repair or replace damaged structural components in bridge and infrastructure systems
-
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
-
Work at heights, over water, or in confined spaces as required
-
Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work area
-
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications is a benefit but not required

Follow all occupational health and safety policies, traffic control requirements, and environmental regulations
Education and Work Experience
-
Journeyperson or apprentice carpenter certification or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

Minimum 2 years of experience in civil construction, concrete formwork, or bridge repair preferred
-
Experience working on bridges, transportation infrastructure, or heavy civil projects considered an asset

Valid driver’s license required, Commercial License preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities

Strong knowledge of concrete forming systems, structural carpentry, and construction methods

Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and safe work practices
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Effective problem-solving and layout skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physically capable of heavy lifting, repetitive tasks, and prolonged standing
-
Comfortable working at heights and in varying outdoor conditions
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications preferred

Work Environment

Outdoor construction sites, including bridges and roadway infrastructure

Exposure to noise, dust, heavy equipment, and variable weather conditions
-
May require working at heights, over water, in confined spaces, or near active traffic
-
Travel will be required including possible nights, weekends, or extended shifts depending on project requirements
