Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and refrigerated trailers, adhering to all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations
- Plan and follow efficient routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries across OTR routes
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts when necessary
- Transport hazardous materials (hazmat) and dangerous goods in compliance with hazardous materials regulations
- Deliver freight accurately to designated locations while maintaining the integrity of the cargo during transit
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with safety standards
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery records in accordance with FMCSA regulations
- Assist with truck loading and unloading processes, including handling logistics cargo with care and precision
- Follow all safety protocols during manual handling tasks such as load securing, truck loading/unloading, and equipment operation
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams to coordinate deliveries and resolve route or cargo issues promptly
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving and route driving in various environments
- Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operation, flatbed hauling, tanker transport, and automobile transportation is highly desirable
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments
- Ability to handle hazardous materials safely following hazardous materials regulations
- Skilled in manual transmission operation and manual handling techniques for cargo management
- Experience with forklift operation for loading/unloading freight when necessary
- Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and hazardous materials regulations
- Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record; familiarity with over-the-road (OTR) driving routes preferred
- Ability to load & unload trucks efficiently while maintaining safety standards for logistics cargo handling
- Capable of managing dangerous goods safely during transportation processes
