CDL-A Utility Lineworker
Underground Contractors, Inc. (UCI) is seeking a CDL-A Utility Lineworker to join our team in Wixom, MI. This position supports aerial utility construction and maintenance operations, including fiber, communication, and utility line work. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors, around aerial equipment, and as part of a utility construction crew.
This is a field-based position that requires a valid CDL-A license, but the primary focus of the role is utility linework and crew support rather than dedicated truck driving.
Responsibilities
- Assist with aerial utility line construction, maintenance, and repair
- Support installation and maintenance of fiber, communication, and utility lines
- Work around bucket trucks, aerial lifts, utility poles, and overhead utility infrastructure
- Assist with setting up and maintaining safe work zones
- Handle tools, materials, and equipment needed for daily linework operations
- Load and unload equipment, tools, materials, and jobsite supplies
- Safely operate CDL-A trucks and trailers as needed to transport equipment and materials
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT requirements
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies
- Assist Foreman and crew members with daily field operations
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and jobsite environments
Requirements
- Valid CDL-A License with Air Brake Endorsement, no restrictions required
- Valid DOT Medical Certification
- Interest in utility linework and aerial construction
- Ability to work safely around bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and utility construction equipment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when needed
- Ability to follow direction and work well as part of a crew
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous utility linework experience
- Experience working with aerial utility crews
- Experience with fiber, communication, or electrical line installation
- Experience operating or working around bucket trucks or aerial equipment
- Previous construction or field labor experience
- Vacuum truck experience is a plus
