Job Summary
A rapidly-growing wholesale distributor of marine electronics products is seeking a hands-on, high-energy Warehouse & Logistics Supervisor to lead daily operations at our 8,000 sq. ft. wholesale distribution center. In this dual-focus role, you will directly supervise and work alongside a team of 4 warehouse employees while taking full ownership of warehouse layout and storage optimization, inventory accuracy, shipping efficiency, and domestic shipping vendor contract negotiations. While 99% of our shipments are domestic, you will also be our subject-matter expert on parcel and freight compliance for our growing number of shipments from the US mainland to Puerto Rico.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Floor Operations
- Supervise and work alongside 4 Warehouse Associates to execute daily receiving, picking, packing, staging, and shipping schedules.
- Serve as a "working supervisor" who leads by example, safely operating material handling equipment to load/unload trucks and store/pick inventory when needed.
- Train employees on process efficiency, maintain an organized floor layout, and enforce strict warehouse safety compliance.
Warehouse Layout & Storage Optimization
- Space Utilization: Maximize the use of vertical and floor space through strategic slotting, racking configurations, and mezzanine implementations.
- Design & Redesign: Develop and implement floor plans that optimize the movement of goods, personnel, and equipment.
- Growth Planning: Forecast future inventory mix and volume changes, ensuring adaptable and scalable storage solutions.
Carrier Contract Negotiation & Cost Optimization
- Negotiate corporate shipping contracts and rate structures directly with major parcel carriers (UPS, FedEx, USPS) and LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) carriers to reduce freight spend.
- Manage carrier relationships, audit freight invoices for accuracy, and hold vendors accountable to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Optimize carrier selection to balance cost and delivery speed.
Inventory & Software Management
- Own the Inventory Management Software System, ensuring all stock movements, receipts, and shipments are accurately scanned and tracked in real-time.
- Lead routine cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to maintain 99%+ data accuracy between physical stock and software records.
- Troubleshoot system discrepancies and optimize digital picking routes to improve warehouse efficiency.
Domestic & Puerto Rico Shipping Compliance
- Process high-volume domestic parcel and freight shipments efficiently through integrated shipping software (e.g., WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, etc.).
- Execute specialized parcel and freight shipments from the US to Puerto Rico using UPS, FedEx, USPS, and regional freight forwarders.
- Ensure total compliance with Puerto Rico shipping mandates, including generating accurate Electronic Export Information (EEI/AES Direct) filings for shipments valued over $2,500.
- Prepare meticulous commercial invoices, packing lists, and localized documentation required to clear the Port of San Juan and navigate Puerto Rico tax department (Hacienda) entry rules without transit delays.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5+ years of hands-on warehouse supervision and logistics coordinator experience.
- Warehouse Layout & Storage Optimization: Strong understanding of vertical space utilization, strategic product slotting, and logical workflow design to turn every square foot into a highly productive asset
- Carrier Negotiation: Proven track record of independently negotiating discount tiers, fuel surcharges, and dimensional weight factors with UPS, FedEx, and LTL brokers.
- PR Shipping Expertise: Verifiable experience managing US-to-Puerto Rico parcel logistics, customs requirements, and ocean/air forwarder routing.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Inventory Management Systems (IMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), or ERP platforms.
- Certifications: Current Forklift Operator Certification is highly beneficial (or willingness to get certified immediately upon hire).
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
