What You'll Do:
ECS is seeking a Building Enclosure Project Associate to join our Midwest Building Science + Infrastructure team in Brooklyn Heights, OH. In this role, you will support building enclosure consulting projects through a combination of field investigations, testing, technical analysis, and report preparation. You will collaborate with experienced consultants and multidisciplinary project teams to evaluate building envelope performance, support construction quality, and deliver practical solutions for clients across a variety of facility types. This position offers strong opportunities for hands-on field experience, technical growth, and mentorship within a collaborative consulting environment.
Responsibilities

Basic knowledge of building science & infrastructure related testing and consulting services.

Collaborate with staff members on a variety of projects. Actively mentor junior staff and support overall development of the team.

Coordinate and attend project meetings, providing solutions to technical and administrative issues as necessary.

Interface with clients on a daily regular basis. Maintain and develop a client database.

Basic ability to manage project budgets. Prepare change orders, invoices, and assist with collection efforts. Proactively communicate with the project team about testing or budget concerns.

Good ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines. Consult with your supervisor to help prioritize tasks on a weekly basis.

Possesses strong technical writing skills with regard to basic conventions of spelling, grammar, and professional content/tone. Knows, understands, and uses standard industry terms and jargon. Effectively proofreads their own written work.

Prepare building science & infrastructure reports, perform analysis, and provide recommendations for review by senior staff. Good ability to interpret test results, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions.

Initiate project set up and implementation with limited supervision.

Management of building science & infrastructure projects including the application of technical support. Responsible for several projects being performed simultaneously.

Prepare proposals and change orders.

Perform review of deliverables prepared by subordinate staff prior to submission for senior and principal review.

Host or attend project discussions with clients, follow up on reports to determine if there are questions.

Other duties as assigned.
Building Enclosure
-
Good understanding of the construction process and good ability to read and interpret figures, drawings, and site plans. May need to perform drafting or use computer aided design (CAD) software.

Perform daily site observations or inspections of roofing or completed building assemblies. Review quality assurance observation reports. Perform routine visits to active project sites to ensure appropriate quality and progress. Mentor junior staff as needed. Communicate project completion milestones with client and advise on any significant directional changes.

Good knowledge of IBC and local building codes as they relate to the building enclosure. Continue to improve familiarity with national standards such as ASHRAE, ASTM, and CSI.

Direct site activities and maintain continuous communication with subordinate field staff and senior managers. Discuss how changes at the site could affect the project outcome or budget with the project Principal.
- Perform specialized building enclosure testing and begin to learn how to develop test plans.

Good understating of building enclosure testing protocols that align with project requirements and industry standards. Begin to prepare basic testing protocols.
- Basic understanding of key test standards and how field testing, system limitations, and test outcomes relate to design performance and potential failures.

Assist with building enclosure and/or structural consulting and forensic assessments as requested.

Assist senior staff with commissioning projects (witness, document etc.).
- Assist with and continue to learn how to perform new construction design review and design of repairs to existing building envelope components.

Assist with peer review of the design, specifications, and submittals.

Communicate with junior staff to direct field work performed by subcontractors and ECS field staff on routine projects with support of senior staff. Likely will require managing and/or performing multiple projects simultaneously.
What We're Looking For:
Qualifications

2 years of related experience

Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering Architecture (NCARB), Civil (Structural) Engineering, or Architectural Engineering

Licensure or certifications may be required depending on the type of work performed

If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required

Good knowledge of building science & infrastructure principles and applications.

Good knowledge of building and materials codes and construction practices.

Good knowledge of structural, architectural, and building systems, design, and/or analysis.

Excellent oral & written communication skills.
