Rye Electric is seeking an experienced Lead Journeyman / Lead Electrician to join our growing field operations team in San Diego. This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced electrician with a strong background in multifamily electrical construction who is ready to take the next step beyond the Journeyman level.
The Lead Journeyman will work alongside the crew while providing day-to-day direction, coordinating work activities, troubleshooting field issues, and supporting the Foreman in keeping the project safe, organized, and on schedule. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled electrician who has demonstrated leadership ability and is looking to develop into a Foreman.
Requirements:
● Strong multifamily electrical construction experience
● Current residence in the San Diego area
● Ability to work on multifamily projects throughout the San Diego market
● Proven ability to lead and direct other electricians in the field
Key Responsibilitie
- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of a small electrical crew on multifamily
construction projects.
● Assign work and provide direction to apprentices, journeymen, and other field personnel.
● Work hands-on while ensuring the crew maintains productivity, quality, and safety
standards.
● Support the Foreman with daily manpower planning and production.
● Help coordinate work with other trades and subcontractors.
● Provide technical guidance and troubleshoot field issues.
● Step into increased leadership responsibilities as needed.
Electrical Construction:
● Perform hands-on electrical installation, troubleshooting, testing, and repair.
● Install electrical systems in multifamily residential buildings, including conduit, wiring,
panels, lighting, devices, and related equipment.
● Read and interpret electrical plans, blueprints, specifications, and one-lines.
● Understand multifamily electrical layouts, rough-in, trim, unit work, common areas, and
service-related installations.
● Identify potential construction or installation issues and communicate them to the
Foreman.
● Ensure installations meet project specifications, applicable electrical codes, and Rye
Electric quality standards.
● Assist with layout and material planning for upcoming work.
Safety & Quality
● Lead by example and promote a strong safety culture.
● Follow all Rye Electric safety policies and jobsite requirements.
● Ensure crew members use appropriate PPE and follow safe work practices.
● Identify and communicate jobsite hazards.
● Maintain high-quality workmanship and address deficiencies promptly.
● Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and required training.
Communication & Coordination
● Communicate daily progress, manpower requirements, material needs, and field
concerns to the Foreman.
● Coordinate with other trades to maintain workflow and avoid conflicts.
● Communicate changes, field conditions, and potential delays to project leadership.
● Help ensure materials are available when needed.
● Maintain professional relationships with general contractors, customers, subcontractors,
and other trades.
Required Qualifications
● 5+ years of electrical construction experience preferred.
● Required: Multifamily electrical construction experience.
● Required: Currently based in San Diego or the surrounding San Diego County
area.
● Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, and installation
practices.
● Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, plans, and specifications.
● Previous experience leading a crew or directing the work of other electricians strongly
preferred.
● Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
● Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
● Strong communication and organizational skills.
● Reliable transportation and ability to travel to San Diego-area jobsites.
● California Journeyman Electrician certification/license preferred, where applicable.
Pay: $40.00 - $43.00 per hour
