Friends School of Wilmington seeks a collaborative and detail-oriented Middle School Math Assistant Teacher to join our learning community starting in August, 2026. This part-time position supports our 7th and 8th grade math curriculum, working closely with the Lead Math Teacher to foster an engaging, student-centered classroom where critical thinking and problem-solving thrive.Our math program emphasizes conceptual understanding, real-world applications, and project-based learning. Students explore pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry through hands-on activities, collaborative problem-solving, and personalized practice. As the Math Assistant Teacher, you will:
Areas of Responsibility
- Support small-group instruction, offering targeted help to students with varying levels of math confidence and experience.
- Help prepare materials, set up classroom activities, and organize resources for lessons and projects.
- Assist in guiding students through inquiry-based explorations, math games, and applied learning experiences.
- Provide feedback on student work and help monitor progress in partnership with the Lead Math Teacher.
- Contribute to a positive classroom environment rooted in respect, curiosity, and collaboration.

- Experience working with students in a classroom, tutoring, or camp environment.

Essential Duties

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees in this job must be energetic and flexible and possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light work, as defined by the Social Security Administration’s Code of Federal Regulations.
Hours & CompensationThis role is a non-exempt part-time (16 hours/week), 10-month position. . Specific scheduling will be determined in coordination with the Middle School Director. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
