Position Description:
Director of Technology
Location: Northbrook, IL (hybrid, 3 days a week onsite)
Reports To: VP of Finance
Salary Range: $130,000–$150,000
Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Position Summary
The Director of Technology is the organization’s senior technology leader, responsible for technology strategy, infrastructure, security, and core business systems. This role brings together technology responsibilities that are currently spread across the organization under one accountable leader. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep expertise in systems administration, security, vendor management, and integrations who can set strategy and execute effectively at every level.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Integration & HRIS
- Own the integration architecture between the company’s HRIS and client-required software platforms
- Manage data flows, resolve integration issues, and maintain data integrity across connected systems
- Partner with internal and client-facing teams to evaluate and implement new integrations as business needs evolve
Business Application Ownership
- Provide leadership oversight for Salesforce strategy, governance, and cross-functional alignment; the current Salesforce Administrator will report to this role and retain day-to-day platform administration
- Administer Box, including governance, permissions, and storage policies
- Own the portfolio of peripheral software and SaaS tools across the organization, including license management and renewals
- Lead software contract negotiations, including pricing, terms, renewals, and vendor consolidation opportunities
IT Infrastructure & Security
- Own the company’s IT architecture and infrastructure strategy
- Manage the relationship with the company’s managed service provider (MSP), including evaluating provider performance
- Maintain and strengthen the organization’s security posture, including policies, controls, and risk management practices
- Serve as the primary liaison with external IT auditors and lead remediation of audit findings
Client-Facing Security & Compliance
- Respond to client security inquiries and complete security questionnaires and assessments
- Maintain documentation of the company’s security controls and compliance posture for client due diligence
- Keep the organization audit-ready with clear, current procedures
Employee Lifecycle Support
- Manage technology onboarding for new employees, including provisioning accounts, hardware, and system access
- Manage technology offboarding for departing employees, including timely deactivation and asset recovery
- Maintain access management standards across all systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years of progressive IT or technology experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role
- Experience managing MSP relationships and vendor contracts
- Working knowledge of IT security frameworks (for example, SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001) and experience working with auditors
- Experience with HRIS platforms and system integrations
- Strong vendor negotiation and project management skills
- Ability to operate as both a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner in a lean organization
