RESPONSIBILITIES

Engage with patients and families to explain account balances, payment options, and available financial assistance programs.

Monitor and follow up on self-pay accounts to ensure timely, ethical collections.

Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing policies.

Apply knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in all collection efforts.

Serve as a Certified Application Counselor and support presumptive Medicaid eligibility screening.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED required.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hospital-based collections or patient accounts.

Must obtain and maintain Certified Application Counselor and Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility credentials.

Proficient in office technology including phones, printers, scanners, and Microsoft Word/Excel.

Familiarity with legal forms, insurance practices, and billing-related legal proceedings.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.

Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods and occasionally lift light materials.
ENVIRONMENT:
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The workplace is professional, clean, and collaborative. While the physical demands are moderate, the psychological demands can be intense due to the sensitive nature of financial discussions with patients.
