Your Contribution to Wohl Industries
Wohl Industries buys and sells used processing and packaging equipment for customers around the world. We need an Equipment Appraiser & Buyer to lead how we evaluate and acquire machines. You inspect equipment, judge its condition and resale value, and make the buy decisions that build our inventory. We do not buy every machine offered to us. You read what each seller needs and recommend the path that fits, whether that is an outright purchase or a listing through Wohl Marketplace Solutions. You are the person who knows what a machine is worth and the best path to sell it. You also love to learn. Machines you have never seen before will cross your desk, and you treat each one as a challenge worth digging into.
Your Contribution to Wohl Industries
Appraise and acquire equipment (your main focus)
- Work the lead pipeline. Sellers submit equipment through our website, and we reach out to a network of more than 50,000 customers about their surplus machines. You qualify what is worth pursuing.
- Inspect machines at seller sites, over video, and on local visits. Travel occasionally for inspections.
- Assess condition, remaining life, upgrade potential, and resale value.
- Research machines you have not seen before. Dig into specs, OEM materials, and comparable sales to confirm what an unfamiliar machine is worth and who would buy it.
- Give clear buy or pass recommendations backed by documentation and cost estimates.
- Set fair acquisition prices and help negotiate purchases.
- Coordinate with OEMs for manuals, parts, and technical support to confirm a machine's history and value.
Guide customers on the right way to sell
- Read what the seller needs. A customer chasing the highest return wants a different path than one trying to clear floor space fast.
- Match the option to the goal. An outright purchase moves a machine quickly. A listing through Wohl Marketplace Solutions opens it to our buyer network and can return more.
- Explain how each option works, what it involves, and what the customer can expect.
- Earn seller trust so customers bring their next machine to Wohl first.
Support the sales team
- Answer customer questions on capabilities, compatibility, performance, and specifications.
- Join customer calls, video tours, and inspections when deeper technical input helps close a deal.
- Advise on whether a machine fits a customer's production environment.
Document and list inventory
- Receive, document, and photograph incoming machines.
- Write detailed, customer-focused listings that highlight specifications, condition, and performance.
- Confirm machines meet basic functional and safety standards before listing.
- Work with the shop team to define what each machine needs to be sale-ready.
Your Ideal Knowledge / Experience (a plus!)
- 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience with processing and packaging machinery such as fillers, cappers, labelers, form-fill-seal, cartoners, blenders, conveyors, mixers, and wrappers.
- A sharp eye for condition and value. You look at used equipment and judge what it is worth and what it needs.
- A love for the machines. You want to see a wide diversity of equipment every day instead of running the same line.
- A passion for learning. You enjoy digging into a machine you have not seen before and figuring out what it does, what it is worth, and who would buy it.
- Background as a plant supervisor, plant manager, operations leader, or manufacturing consultant in food, beverage, pharma, or CPG. If you have lived with these machines on a plant floor or advised companies that run them, and you want a change of pace, this role fits.
- Equipment appraisal experience is helpful but not required. The methods can be learned quickly when you already know the machines.
- Experience in the used equipment market is a plus.
- A consultative approach with sellers. You build trust and recommend the option that serves the customer, not just the fastest deal.
- Strong written and verbal communication. You explain technical details clearly to customers, sales staff, and the shop team.
- Ability to create technical documentation and equipment listings.
- Comfort with inventory and CRM systems.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for inspections (10 to 25%).
- A technical degree or certification in mechanical engineering, industrial technology, or electrical and controls is a plus.
- Familiarity with major OEM brands in pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, and chemical processing and packaging.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards.
- Basic photography or video skills and English and Spanish bilingual ability are pluses.
Wohl Industries' Contribution to You
- Salary plus bonus structure of $90,000 to $120,000+ a year, with room to earn more through performance and growth.
- Competitive health and disability plans.
- 401(k) plan with employer match.
- Flexible PTO and a comprehensive holiday schedule, including the entire week of Christmas through New Year's Day.
- A direct line to the President and a real voice in what we buy and sell.
- Work that matters. Your appraisal calls shape our margins and our reputation.
- A business with more than 50 years of trust behind it and a clear plan to grow.
- A team that values expertise, hard work, and straight talk.
