Commission + Residuals + Bonuses | Independent Contractor (1099)
Build Skills. Create Opportunities. Grow Your Career.
Cal Max Benefits is looking for ambitious, outgoing, and coachable people who want to build a career in employee benefits, B2B sales, and account development.
This is a hands-on opportunity to learn the entire revenue cycle: find an opportunity, open the account, conduct the enrollment, retain the relationship, and grow it over time.
We'll provide the training, resources, and support. The right candidate brings the ambition, resolve, and resilience to put them to work.
Learn the Business
Successful candidates will learn to:
- Prospect and open employer accounts
- Connect with business owners, HR professionals, and decision-makers
- Turn cold prospects into appointments and enrollment opportunities
- Serve as a worksite liaison during employee benefit enrollments
- Build and retain client relationships
- Cross-sell across multiple carrier solutions
- Develop residual income and a growing Book of Business
Training includes course materials, hands-on mentorship, field support, and cross-carrier product education.
Create Opportunity—Then Expand It
One of the most valuable skills in sales is knowing how to create business instead of waiting for business.
New representatives learn to prospect and develop employer accounts with support throughout the process. As consistent account development and follow-through are demonstrated, representatives become eligible for Public Sector enrollment opportunities through the agency.
Build the skill. Produce results. Expand the opportunity.
Sell Solutions, Not Just One Product
Our multi-carrier approach creates versatility.
Not every employer needs the same solution. Representatives learn to identify client needs and pivot across available carrier solutions rather than depending on one product to fit every prospect.
One solution may open the door today. Another may expand the relationship tomorrow.
The goal isn't simply to teach product sales. It's to teach account development.
Performance Creates Earning Opportunities
Potential compensation may include:
- Commissions
- Residual income
- Bonus opportunities
- Additional compensation for certain enrollment assignments, when available
- Carrier incentives and recognition programs, when available
Business developed and retained can become more than today's commission—it can build a growing Book of Business with opportunities for residual income, recurring enrollments, cross-selling, and continued account expansion.
What We're Looking For
Ideal candidates are:
- Ambitious, positive, and coachable
- Self-motivated with the drive to execute prospecting and account-development activities consistently
- Able to take direction, apply training, and follow through consistently
- Persistent and comfortable building relationships with new people
- Reliable, accountable, and motivated by results
- Interested in continued personal and professional growth
Licensed insurance candidates are preferred, but proven front-line sales experience matters. Candidates with backgrounds in direct sales, field sales, canvassing, telecommunications, solar, or other customer-facing sales roles are encouraged to apply.
Unlicensed candidates and candidates with existing carrier appointments should review the applicable requirements below.
Already licensed but haven't found the right environment to put that license to work? This may be the opportunity to put that experience to work across a broader range of solutions and opportunities.
Ready for More?
For candidates ready to put in the work, Cal Max Benefits provides training, mentorship, carrier access, account-development support, and opportunities to turn that effort into meaningful professional growth.
As Cal Max Benefits grows, high performers may have opportunities to advance into account management, business development, team leadership, and other areas of the organization.
Talent gets someone started. What they do with the opportunity determines where it can take them.
Cal Max Benefits provides the platform. Ambition creates the momentum.
This is an independent contractor opportunity. This is not a salaried position. Cal Max Benefits representatives are independent contractors, not employees. However, while you are in business for yourself, you are not by yourself. Any income range associated with this posting represents the potential earnings available to you as a representative in this role; not a guaranteed salary. All earnings in this role are sales results based. Cal Max Benefits representatives may earn commissions, residual income, bonuses, and other performance-based compensation. Earning structures vary by carrier and may include uncapped earning potential.
Candidates with existing appointments or contracts with carriers represented through Cal Max Benefits will be required to transfer or realign those relationships under the agency, subject to applicable carrier requirements.
Unlicensed candidates are welcome to apply. If selected, candidates will be required to obtain the appropriate California insurance license and pay all associated licensing fees. Required training and course materials will however be provided at zero cost, with access to carrier representatives who can assist candidates through the licensing process. Accepted unlicensed candidates are expected to complete licensing requirements promptly so they can begin taking advantage of available opportunities.
