We are seeking a dedicated enthusiastic educator to join our team as a long-term substitute teacher. We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting studen tlearning, and maintaining a positive, engaging classroom environment. The assignment is expected to begin around mid-December through mid-March 2027.

SUMMARY:
Temporarily assumes full classroom responsibilities for an extended period to instruct students and facilitiate learning activities aimed at promoting intellectual, social, and physical growth in the prescribed content area.
Required Qualifications

Certifications: Valid Iowa teaching license (Standard, Initial, Master or Substitute License) issued by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE). Note on Substitute Authorizations: Candidates holding a BOEE Substitute Authorization may only serve up to 10 consecutive days in a 30-day period in the same assignment, so would not be eligible for a long-term substitute teaching position.

Experience: Prior teaching, student teaching, or substitute experience preferred.

Clearances: Mandatory Criminal Fingerprint and Background Check; Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties must be performed on site. Other duties may be assigned.

Reports to work as scheduled on a regular, reliable basis for the duration of the long-term assignment.

Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.

Implements existing unit/lesson plans or develops rigorous new plans aligned with Board-adopted curriculum.

Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student needs and maturity.

Utilizies a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles.

Establishes and maintains standard classroom management and behavioral expecations.

Evaluates, records, and reports student academic progress and maintains accurate confidential records.

Communicates effectively with parents, guardians, and administration regarding student progress.

Assists administration in enforcing school rules, safety protocols, and district policies
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises students during school-related activities; oversees teacher associates or volunteers as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills: Strong classroom management, clear verbal/written communication, adaptability, and proficient use of instructional technology and record-keeping software.

Knowledge: Sound understanding of adolescent development, subject matter concepts, and effective pedagogy.

Abilities: Ability to step seamlessly into an established classroom, build positive working relationships, differentiate instruction, and exercise tact, patience, and confidentiality.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Requires regular sitting (40%), walking (20%), standing (40%), and light lifting or pushing. Standard, hazard-free classroom environment with minimal temperature variations.
Salary Grade: Certified Long-Term Substitute Rate Schedule
