ACT Now Policy and Communications Internship
Description
ACT Now is seeking a driven intern with a dedicated interest in positive youth development for our part-time internship during the Fall 2026 semester. ACT Now is a statewide coalition that advocates for quality and affordable afterschool programming. We are the C. S. Mott Foundation-funded Statewide Afterschool Network, and we have a counterpart in all 50 states. Our offices are based in Chicago, IL. We are facilitating an in-person internship with hybrid opportunities as necessitated by the candidate who fills this role. There is a stipend to be awarded at the conclusion of the internship.
The intern who fills this position will have the opportunity to assist in ACT Now’s federal and state policy work and communications work. Applicants to this position should have excellent communications skills, a strong work ethic, an ability to take direction and work independently, and a background in education, government relations, public policy, and/or social work.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on state and federal policy issues affecting afterschool programs
- Assist the Policy and Communications Associate in writing copy for the ACT Now Newsletter
- Draft and develop content for ACT Now’s social media platforms and help engage users on these platforms
- Participate in ACT Now Committee meetings and take meeting minutes
- Work on ACT Now’s policy campaigns, including federal and state funding for afterschool programs
Qualifications
- Applicants must have completed at least their sophomore year at their undergraduate institution.
- Candidates must be motivated, organized, and possess good communications skills.
- Preferred candidates with a demonstrated interest in education, social justice issues, positive youth development, public policy, or social work.
- Applicants should have access to consistent internet and laptop.
- Applicants should be available part-time, approximately 22 hours, for at least ten weeks, with priority given to candidates who are able to accommodate committee meetings during the second Wednesday and Thursday mornings of each month.
