Position Summary
Arkansas Baptist College is seeking a creative, innovative, and student-centered Makerspace Teacher to lead our Makerspace Lab within the META24 program.
This is not a traditional classroom teaching position. The Makerspace Teacher creates an engaging environment where students learn by designing, building, prototyping, experimenting, and solving real-world problems. Students work with tools, materials, technology, and fabrication processes while developing technical, entrepreneurial, and workforce skills.
META24 Lab Facilitators are practitioner-first educators. We are seeking makers, designers, technologists, entrepreneurs, engineers, fabricators, skilled tradespeople, artists, and industry professionals who have both expertise in their craft and a passion for mentoring young people.
Facilitators teach across the five META24 mastery domains:
- Machine Mastery
- Software Mastery
- Core Mastery
- Skill Mastery
- Workforce Mastery
Using METTIE and other META24 technologies, facilitators guide student learning, document growth, track competencies, and connect student work to real-world opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on, project-based learning experiences within the Makerspace Lab.
- Teach technical, workforce, and entrepreneurial skills through authentic projects.
- Mentor and support students through real-world learning experiences and career exploration.
- Guide students through design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and presentation processes.
- Support entrepreneurship, portfolio development, and venture-based learning.
- Foster creativity, innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Maintain safe, organized, and productive lab environments.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate with staff, mentors, families, and community partners.
- Utilize METTIE and META24 systems to document student progress and project outcomes.
- Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Professional experience, credentials, certifications, or demonstrated expertise in a related field, trade, technology, engineering, fabrication, entrepreneurship, design, skilled craft, or creative discipline.
- Experience working with youth or adult learners.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable using technology and AI-supported learning tools.
- Safety-first mindset around equipment, tools, and lab operations.
- Practitioner-first, educator-second mentality.
- Patient, energetic, adaptable, and mission-driven.
- Comfortable receiving feedback and maintaining high standards of professionalism and student support.
Preferred
- Experience in makerspaces, STEM programs, fabrication labs, industrial arts, robotics, engineering, woodworking, entrepreneurship, or project-based learning environments.
- Experience working in alternative education, higher education, or workforce development settings.
- Experience with technologies such as:
- 3D Printing
- Laser Cutting
- Robotics
- CAD Software
- Electronics
- Woodworking
- Digital Fabrication Tools
Additional Information
Teaching license not required. Candidates with significant industry, technical, maker, fabrication, engineering, entrepreneurship, design, or skilled trades experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
