We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to contribute to the fabrication, modification, and operation of industrial machine tools and parts. In this role, you will apply your expertise in mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to develop and maintain precision components. Your proficiency with Vertical Turret Lathes and/or Manual Lathes will be essential to your success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and manually machine components and parts for all types of pumps in a custom job shop environment, ensuring adherence to project specifications.
- Produce high-quality components such as impellers, wear-rings, bearing housings, covers, and seals, meeting precise dimensional requirements.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to accurately determine operational methods and machining sequences.
- Execute precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting processes using a variety of machinery, including horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills, and ID/OD grinders.
- Verify dimensions of critical components using inspection equipment, translating measurements into numerical data for quality control purposes.
- Evaluate machining procedures to optimize efficiency and reduce production time, contributing to overall project timelines.
- Maintain machine tools and equipment in optimal operational condition, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Uphold shop safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
- Work with engineers and other machinists to resolve problems and improve processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and its application in a shop setting.
- Solid understanding of geometry to compute angles, radii, bolt circles, and other dimensions.
- Knowledge of feed rates and their effects on machining adjustments.
- Expertise in setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps.
- Ability to machine pump shafts of varying lengths while maintaining close tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in all machining tasks.
- Excellent manual and finger dexterity for intricate machining operations.
- Demonstrated coordination and control precision in operating machinery.
- 5+ years of post-training experience as a machinist in an industrial facility machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines.
- Completion of a technical or vocational training program related to machinery (Journeyman status preferred).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
