In this role, you will design engaging curriculum, foster critical thinking, and create a vibrant classroom environment that promotes curiosity and academic growth.
Duties
- Develop comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, integrating instructional design principles and learning technology tools to enhance student engagement.
- Deliver interactive lessons on topics such as history, geography, government, economics, and cultural studies.
- Incorporate creative writing, journalism techniques, and literacy education strategies to foster strong communication skills among students.
- Utilize classroom management techniques to maintain a positive learning environment conducive to student participation and behavior management.
- Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and project-based evaluations; provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Familiar with Google Classroom
- Familiar with preparing students to write literary analysis essays and other essential skills needed to prepare students for NYS Regents exams in ELA.
- Mentor students individually or in small groups to support diverse learning needs, including special education accommodations and tutoring sessions.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and extracurricular activities that promote social studies literacy and civic responsibility.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to research methods and educational administration
Experience
- Proven classroom experience teaching middle school social studies or related subjects in a private or public school setting.
- Strong background in curriculum development with familiarity in instructional design principles and educational technology tools.
- Experience mentoring students with effective classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies.
- Familiarity with higher education teaching concepts applicable at the middle school level; experience working with diverse student populations is preferred.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly while fostering an inclusive classroom environment that encourages inquiry and critical thinking.
- Prior involvement in literacy education initiatives or journalism projects that enhance students’ writing skills and civic awareness.
Qualifications
- · Bachelor's Degree in English, English Education, Literacy, or a related field required.
- · Master's Degree preferred.
- Bi-Lingual Spanish Preferred
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification required.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
