Position Overview
The Production Foam Skiver utilizes specialized handheld craft tools to shave, shape, and contour foam materials according to strict blueprint specifications. Operating in a fast-paced, high-mix environment, this role is critical to supporting our production seating assembly plant by fabricating master foam seat models and executing high-precision reworks.
This is a skilled craftsmanship position that blends technical print interpretation with manual dexterity. Training is available to highly motivated individuals who possess a strong foundational baseline in blueprint reading and basic metrology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Job Staging & Allocation: Receive daily work assignments distributed by the Plant Supervisor based on the technical difficulty and complexity of the specific seat build
- Template Extraction & Material Selection: Interpret full-scale CAD drawings provided by management. Extract physical templates using acetate overlays and accurately select the correct foam density and substrate matching the specified ILD (Indentation Load Deflection) parameters
- Model Fabrication & Foam Rework: Utilize a variety of manual and power hand tools to build complex foam seat models from scratch, radius edges, blend multi-density transitions, and revise or rework existing production foam parts to print specifications
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Perform continuous visual and manual inspections of foam components to maintain flawless cell surfaces. Actively support and comply with all RCO Quality Policies to minimize material waste and prevent non-conforming parts from reaching downstream assembly lines
- Cross-Functional & Operational Duties: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe immediate work cell. Perform any other production-related duties or specialty builds, as assigned by leadership

Qualifications & Education:
- High School Diploma
- Blue Print Reading Required
- 2 years using power hand tools for assemblies
- Comfortable working independently, sitting, and standing in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 6 months prior experience in a manufacturing or production plant preferred
- Confident to ask questions when needing direction.
- Able to lift 40 lbs. safely
Preferred Skills:
- Tool Competency: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience utilizing power hand tools and manual specialty blades for manufacturing or mechanical assemblies.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver up to 40 lbs independently. Comfortable standing, bending, and performing repetitive physical shaping tasks throughout the shift.
- Analytical Execution: A highly disciplined, common-sense approach to project execution, with the ability to ask appropriate clarifying questions before cutting expensive substrates.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous eye for ergonomics, ensuring seamless layer-to-layer transitions so completed cushions are free of harsh ridges or surface defects.
- Collaboration: Positive, adaptable, and collaborative work attitude, with a strong willingness to learn advanced seating craftsmanship from senior team members.
