PRN
The SURG FIRST ASSIST (RN) is responsible for providing nursing care for patient populations in the operating rooms (OR) and for perioperative care in the transition from preoperative preparation, through surgery and to recovery areas. The SURG FIRST ASSIST (RN) must possess the skills necessary to assist the physician in a variety of surgical procedures, must minimize turnaround times between procedures, and follow established safety procedures. The SURG FIRST ASSIST (RN) maintains and provides accurate communication during the intraoperative and perioperative periods. The SURG FIRST ASSIST (RN) uses the nursing process to include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care throughout the patient’s stay in the OR areas.
- Demonstrates awareness of Surgical Services policies and AORN standards of care
- Organizes, prioritizes and implements work based on the changing needs of patients and the unit. Demonstrates principles and practices of aseptic techniques
- Demonstrates knowledge of surgical pharmacology and anesthesia agent adjuncts
- Performs treatments and administers medications per policies and procedures.
- Appropriately responds and functions effectively in emergency situations.
- Assists in preparing patient for transfer from the Operating Room.
- Evaluates the progress of patients to treatments and medications toward established goals and revises the plan of care accordingly.
Requirements:
- Associate Degree
- Graduate of school of nursing with current unrestricted KY license required, or higher.
- Certification as First Assist required.
- Two or more years recent surgery experience preferred.
