Company Overview
Polaris Home Design is an appointment-only, kitchen and bath design-build studio serving high-end residential clients across Los Angeles. We build custom cabinetry. Our cabinetry is manufactured in our own shop, which means a designer here can specify a detail and have it built to drawing, rather than compromising a concept to fit a product line.
The role
We are looking for a designer with genuine creative ambition — someone who wants to build a portfolio of luxury custom kitchens, baths, and closets and has the technical discipline to make those spaces work as well as they look. Our clients come to us expecting a level of craft they can't find elsewhere, and they give us the budgets and the freedom to deliver it.
You'll manage projects from the first client meeting through installation: design, client relations, quoting and closing, and coordination with the shop during production.
Responsibilities
- Meet with clients in our showroom and on-site; serve as their primary point of contact throughout the project
- Design kitchens, bathrooms, and closets: layouts, elevations, cabinetry specifications, materials, hardware, and lighting
- Produce high-resolution renderings that convey the design at the level our clients expect
- Learn our pricing structure, prepare accurate quotes, present proposals, and close projects
- Coordinate with the shop, project managers, and trades to ensure the design is executed as drawn
Requirements
- Demonstrated kitchen design experience, with a working command of functional layout: clearances, work zones, appliance rough-ins, and storage planning. Beautiful kitchens that don't work aren't finished kitchens
- Experience across all three of our categories — kitchens, bathrooms, and closets
- Strong SketchUp proficiency, including the ability to produce high-resolution client-facing renderings
- A developed design point of view. We want someone with taste, opinions, and the ability to defend a concept in front of a discerning client
- Willingness and ability to sell. This is a design role with sales responsibility; you will present pricing and ask for the business
- Strong follow-through and communication for the duration of the project
Preferred
- Experience with 2020 Design, Mozaik software
- Rendering experience in V-Ray, Enscape, Lumion, or similar
- Interior design degree and/or NKBA certification (AKBD, CKBD)
- Prior experience at a design-build firm or custom cabinet manufacturer
- Familiarity with custom cabinetry construction and its limitations
To apply
Submit your resume along with a portfolio containing at least 3 kitchen projects. Please include floor plans or layouts, not renderings alone — we want to see how you think about space, not only how you present it. Applications without a kitchen layout will not be reviewed.
