Millennium Lawn & Landscape is seeking an experienced, organized, and highly motivated General Manager to oversee the daily operations of our lawn maintenance and landscaping company.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for managing field operations, office coordination, employees, customer relationships, financial performance, scheduling, quality control, and the continued growth of the company. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive experience in the landscaping or service industry, and the ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining a professional and productive workplace.
The General Manager will work closely with company ownership to ensure that all departments operate efficiently, customers receive excellent service, projects remain profitable, and company policies and standards are consistently followed.
Primary Responsibilities Operations Management
- Oversee the company’s daily lawn maintenance, landscaping, irrigation, tree service, chemical application, and related field operations.
- Coordinate with department managers, supervisors, crew leaders, office personnel, and field employees.
- Ensure crews are properly scheduled, staffed, equipped, and prepared for each workday.
- Review daily schedules, job assignments, routes, work orders, and project timelines.
- Monitor labor hours, equipment usage, material costs, and job productivity.
- Identify operational problems and implement practical solutions.
- Ensure approved projects and service requests are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinate resources between maintenance routes, enhancement projects, irrigation work, tree work, and emergency service needs.
Employee Leadership and Accountability
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate managers, supervisors, crew leaders, technicians, and field employees.
- Establish clear expectations for attendance, punctuality, productivity, professionalism, and quality of work.
- Hold employees accountable for following company procedures and completing assigned responsibilities.
- Address employee performance issues, workplace conflicts, disciplinary matters, and policy violations.
- Conduct regular management and safety meetings.
- Develop employees who demonstrate leadership potential.
- Promote a professional workplace culture based on teamwork, communication, accountability, and respect.
Customer and Property Management
- Maintain strong relationships with commercial customers, homeowners’ associations, community managers, board members, builders, and residential clients.
- Respond professionally to customer concerns, service complaints, and quality-control issues.
- Participate in property inspections, customer meetings, board meetings, and project walkthroughs when necessary.
- Ensure customer concerns are documented, assigned, followed through, and resolved.
- Communicate service limitations, contract requirements, recommended improvements, and additional work opportunities.
- Assist with customer retention and the renewal of maintenance agreements.
Quality Control
- Conduct regular inspections of maintenance properties and active landscaping projects.
- Confirm that mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, weed control, irrigation, chemical applications, cleanup, and enhancement work meet company standards.
- Ensure supervisors and crew leaders complete their own documented inspections.
- Correct recurring service issues and establish plans to prevent future problems.
- Verify that completed work matches proposals, contracts, plans, specifications, and customer expectations.
- Maintain a high standard of property appearance and workmanship across all company divisions.
Financial and Administrative Oversight
- Review departmental performance, labor costs, job costing, material expenses, overtime, and profitability.
- Work with ownership and accounting personnel to establish budgets and financial goals.
- Monitor whether maintenance accounts and landscaping projects are being completed within estimated labor and material allowances.
- Review purchasing practices and approve materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses within established authority.
- Assist with estimating, proposals, contract reviews, change orders, and pricing decisions.
- Identify unprofitable accounts, operational inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve margins.
- Help ensure work orders, purchase orders, time records, job records, and customer documentation are completed accurately.
Safety, Equipment, and Compliance
- Enforce company safety procedures and proper equipment-operation practices.
- Ensure required employee training, licensing, certifications, and documentation remain current.
- Monitor vehicle, trailer, machinery, and equipment maintenance.
- Confirm that crews have the correct tools, materials, personal protective equipment, and job information.
- Assist with accident investigations, property-damage reports, employee injuries, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment, transportation, environmental, pesticide, licensing, and workplace safety requirements.
Business Development and Strategic Growth
- Work with ownership to develop and execute company growth plans.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing customer accounts and pursue new commercial contracts.
- Assist with property evaluations, bid preparation, contract presentations, and client onboarding.
- Improve company systems, communication, scheduling, reporting, and operational procedures.
- Help establish measurable goals for revenue, customer retention, productivity, quality, and profitability.
- Represent Millennium Lawn & Landscape professionally within the community and landscaping industry.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of management or operations experience in the lawn maintenance, landscaping, irrigation, tree-care, construction, property-management, or related service industry.
- Proven experience managing multiple crews, supervisors, departments, or service locations.
- Strong knowledge of labor management, scheduling, job costing, budgeting, and operational planning.
- Ability to read and understand proposals, service contracts, job specifications, landscape plans, and financial reports.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations with employees and customers professionally.
- Strong computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, scheduling systems, and business-management software.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors, inspect active job sites, and operate in Florida weather conditions.
- Availability to respond to urgent operational or customer matters outside normal business hours when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of Florida landscaping practices, plant material, turf care, irrigation systems, pest control, and seasonal maintenance requirements.
- Experience managing large commercial properties, homeowners’ associations, community associations, or multi-crew maintenance operations.
- Experience with estimating, bidding, contract management, job costing, and budget preparation.
- Familiarity with landscape-construction projects, irrigation installations, tree operations, and enhancement work.
- Relevant landscaping, irrigation, horticultural, pesticide, arboriculture, or business-management certifications.
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are beneficial but not required.
